VOCALIST AT PIANO SHOPPE By Mrs. E- E Gore Pilling the recital hall of tha Bald win Shoppa to capacity last night, music-lovers of Medford and the val ley, heard David Campbell, pianist, and Delbert Pradenberg, tenor, tn a Joint recital that will long be remem bered as outstanding. Returning from a serlea of coast 1 recitals that took them as far south as Los Angeles. It was Medford ' good fortune to be able to hear them at ' their best. Mr. Campbell's playing of the col ossal "Chromatic Fantasy and Fu gue" Bach, was without the heavi ness of erudition but conveyed a sense of being grounded In exhaus tive knowledge of things musical and was throbbing with emotion, while 1 his Chopin group had mystic fervor springing from his fiery love of beauty. The Liszt Etude, "Introduc tion and Campanelle," were robust ; and played with powerful vitality and at a breath-taking speed. j Lyric beauty of tone quality and ; deep feeling for the Inner meaning ! of music charmed Mr. Pradenberg's i hearers. His exquisite rendition of the Mendelssohn Aria, "If with All Your Hearts," from Elijah, was equalled only by his Interpretation of a group of modern songs. "O Cease Thy Sing ing, Maiden Fair," oy Rachmaninoff, a song typical of the Russian's "hec- ! tic gaiety and brooding" "Melan-; choly" was most enthusiastically re- I celved. I Mr. Campbell's encores were: "Ber- j ceuse In D flat," Chopin. "Two Wnltzs" by Brahm, "Butterflies" by Rosenthal. Mr. Fradenberg's encores were: Car goes. Dobson and a group of four Irish songs; "Mavourneen," "Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms," "Shoes" and "The Rain bow." The concert was under the man- ; agement of Carlton Janes, and Mrs. , H. O. Purucker of the Baldwin Shoppe, with the cooperation of local musicians.
