A new black tube that is pinch
proof and leak-proof thus increas
ing tire life 25. has been de
veloped by the Firestone Tire &
Rubber Company. It is pinch-prooi
because it is made of a tough black
rubber compound similar to tire
tread stock, and because it is
formed with an extra-thick base.
The tough stock and thick base not
only prevent pinching but resist
cutting and wear, giving the tube
far longer life. Two features make
the tube leak-proof. One is it
specially compounded silver lining
which seals the rubber against ail
loss. The other is an all-rubbei
valve stem vulcanized into the tube
as an inseparable unit. This valve
construction also adds strength to
the valve base and to the tube as a
whole. The new product, known
s the Firestone Sealtyte Tube,
fives an average of 25 longer
ire mileage by eliminating under-inflation.

A. A. A. championship race at Los
Angeles last December. Red Lion
fueled cars won three out of four
first places In the Indianapolis 500
mile classic. Rex Mays drove bis
racing mount all during the '34
season fueled with Ollmore and he
drove the year's Pacific coast cham
pionship. Austin Elmore broke econ
omy records when he drove an eight
cylinder car using only one gallon
of this gasoline for every 51.29 miles.
A Ollmore fueled stock sedan for
the first time In history climbed the
steep San Bernardino mountains'
Blue Ridge summit In high gear.
The most recent record-breaking per
formance the performance which
proved to us that the new Ollmore
Red Lion Is ready for the motoring
public was Sir Malcolm Campbell's
sensational dashes to new stock car
marks at Daytona Beach, Florida.
The English pilot reached across
the continent to the shores of the
Pacific for Red Lion gasoline and
Lion Head motor oil. The results
four new A. A. A. national records-
proved the wisdom of his selection.
"Present day stock cars, like those
powerful, lightning-like, bullet
shaped racing automobiles piloted by
the knights of the speedways, re
quire a gasoline that gives smooth
flowing, yet super-volatile power.
Every year motor car manufacturers
increase the compression ratio of
their engines; every new car boast
of a higher-speed power unity. These
high compression, high speed en
gines. In order to operate with maxi
mum efficiency, must be fueled with
a super-refined, scientifically treat
ed gasoline. Sluggish fuels will no
longer do. It was during the de
velopment of a gasoline to accurately
fit this definite need that Gil more
turned tn the speedways as a testing.
Improving and proving ground.
"Auto racing contest, economy
runs, mountain climbs, actual 'point
of performance' tests, proved far
more severe than mere laboratory
equipment tests, but they also proved
more surely Just what was required
of a modern motor fuel, and that
was what we were after. Every bit
of scientific knowledge at the com
mand of our engineers, the com
bined experiences of world-famed
racing drivers, the findings of every
day drivers on the highways and
streets, went into the development
of this new motor fuel."
FACTS ARE GIVEN
The Defloto Airflow model, four
door sedan, town sedan and coupe,
are continued this year with im
provements, including a more attrac
tive radiator and hood design. A new
six In the 1935 DeSoto prloe class,
has a conventional hood and radiator.
Chrysler type Independent front
wheels with coil springs, engine and
seat six inchea forward of normal,
and a 116-Inch wheelbase. Body mod
els are: Business coupe, coupe with
rumble, and two and four-door sedans
both with and without built-in
trunk.
Both use the same engine, except
that the Airstream has a cast iron
head, 5 to 1 compression ration, and
develops 93 horsepower at 3400
whereas the Airflow haa an alumi
num head. 6.5 compression ration
(7.0 to 1 optional) md produces 100
horsepower at 3600, as did the 34
engine of the same dimensions. The
aluminum pistons have a Jewel-hard,
antl-scufflng, aluminum-oxide but- i
face electrolytlcally applied. Water
jacket are full length and a vatt
distributing tube within them pro
vides equal cooling to all valves and
cylinders. A vacuum diaphragm ad
vances the spark on closed throttle
for increased fuel economy. An air
cooled, voltage -regulated generator Is
used. Starting Is by push-button in
stead of by accelerator pedal on the
Airflow, while the Alrstresm haa a
starter pedal. Choke operation and
manifold head are automatically con
trolled. The clutch la air-cooled for Im
proved wearing quality, ribs in the
clutch pressure plate, act as a cen
trlfugal pump. The transmission I.
silent in all gears, with synchronized
shifting to high and second.
The Airflow has a sturdy X frame
Body sills have been eliminated, the
body being bolted directly to the
frame. The all-steel floor haa been
depressed 3'A inches and seats are
higher. The Airflow has an anti-roll
stabilizer at front (formerly at rear)
hypold rear axle, and optional over
drive transmission which automati
cally cuts engine speed JO per cent
above 35 to 40 m. p. h.

sent to every Airflow owner asking

tlons for its improvement? They
wanted the truth, so they didn't try
to Influence the replies. Surely, no
new motor car ever received such en
thusiastic acclaim from Us owners.
It was from these letters that Chrys
ler engineers received many valuable
suggestions. These, coupled with the
past ten months of engineering ex
perimentation, searching for refine
ments and improvements have made
possible the Orcat New Chrysler Air
flow for 1935."
"With the announcement of the
purchase of the first 1P36 Chrysler
Airflow by Dr. Edwin R. Durno,' Mr.
Lange continued, "we are advising
prospective automobile bxiyers to ask
Chrysler purchasers, both Airflow
and Alrstrenm, what they think of
these motor cars."

the longer trips. The upholstery baa
been carefully chosen for Its long
