FEBRUARY 7. 1035 Hu&Se puttaatth Stanley Friend and Louii Foot. 18 -year old step-brother who en tered pleas of guilty to pa Ming forged checks on local stores, were this morning sentenced to two year terms In atate prison and paroled to their father, by Circuit Judge H. D. Norton. Conditions of the paroles were good behavior and re-payment of the money procured. Iran Myers. 20, who plead guilty to passing bogus checks was gtven ! suspended sentence upon condl-! tlon that he return with his mother and alster to Payette county, Illin ois, where the family has friends and a small farm. The Red Cross has made arrangements for their return. Myers has been living at Grants Pass since last June. They were refugees from the mid-west drouth, and Myers told the court, we heard it was easy to make a living In Oregon." They have been on Josephine county relief. Myers told the court he cashed the bogus checks, "because my mother and sister were hungry and I lost my head." The youth repaid the money he gained from the Grand Hotel and Montgomery Ward company of this olty. The court In passing sentence de clared, "the ease with which young men can cash checks In stores and other establishments Is an incen tive and a temptation to commtt forgery. Businessmen should make a closer Investigation of the presenter of a check, before cashing them. If the party la a stranger." I.S. SURVEYING PARfY As part of a federal anow survey, extending from Mexico to Canada, three men today are measuring the anow depths in Orater Lake national park, under direction of County Water Master Clinton Smith. The purpose of the federal snow measurement Is to "get a better guess" on Irrigation water and moisture conomons on me Pacific slope the coming season. The Crater Lake party entered by way of Fort Klamath, and a report from the park said there was a light fall of snow there today. Moisture conditions In this county are now normal but with no surplus. Wntermaster Smith says. The water tabel Is rising and the soil la the wettest in several years. Watermaster Bmlth predicts more rain and anow and favorable water conditions the eoming season. Emigrant dam, the reservoir source of the Talent Irrigation district, la bow about half full with a slow run off. Hlatt lake la also filling slowly. At Fish lake, there is practically no tun-off, due to freealng nights. The Fish lake drainage area, however, la well banked with snow, Insuring a substantial run-off when It does atart. On the Applegate watershed, the anow la also banked high and deep, according to Watermaster Smith, promising plentiful Irrigation water lor that section. He expect a blgster run-off than In the past four years, due to the ground now being well aoaked.
