JfEDFORn MATT. THITiUNE. MEDFOUD. OREGON, SUNDAY, .TAXTJARY 20, 1935. ; .t.4.4....M' ! Society and Club Events Reviewed for Week PAGE TWO Valley Audience Receives Artists With Enthusiasm One of the most pleasing musical vents of the past several seasons was presented Friday evrnlng, Janu ary 18th, at the Southern Oregon Normal auditorium In Ashland. David Campbell, well known on the Pacific coast as concert pianist and teacher, and Delbert Pradenburg. now making a name for himself as a tenor, gave a very fin concert. In David Campbell'! playing, do- voted almost exclusively to tha class ics, there was found an Intelligent Interpretation, sympathetic touch, and a marked sense of rhythmic hu mor, as an accompanist, be entered Into the spirit of song with gaiety and spontaneity, giving perfect bal ance to his young singer In each type of song. Although his program was almost entirely from the classics. Including his encores by Mozart, Brahms, and Cbopln, Mr. Campbell also proved himself to be thoroughly at home In the modern style. As to Mr. Pradenburg, even his own teacher could not have criticized his stage presence, his easy flow of tone, and splendid diction. His group of classics was a perfect conveyance for the sustained beauty of tone which Is always the result of hard work and musical thought for any serious student. Southern Oregon has never heard the Oerman songs more beautifully sung, and the aria from "Manon" compared favorably with the best known singers of the day. From the moderns Mr. Fradenburg chose to pny tribute to Mr, Dobson, now deceased, of Portland, greatly admired by David Campbell, as friend and composer. As one encore, the singer used "Overture, a song In serious, poetic vein, written by Miss Land In, a member of the faculty of the Southern Oregon Normal, Sh el ley 'Rand all s Wedding Friday The marriage of Mrs. Ethel S Shelly and Mr. J.
