Duncan Milne, laat man .eft aboard the stranded freighter Ken kerry. a he broke up on Black Rock Point, wa drowned today as he climbed Into the breeches buoy that had carried 28 of his crew to eafety. The Kenkerry was rapidly being battered to pieces on the rocks. Wet to the skin by spray, the res cued seamen were given hot food and bundled Into bed in homes of Portu guese Cove fishermen. Deep snowdrifts piled up by the blizzard threatened to keep them ma rooned In the little village for days. Tugs I'na'ole Locate Ship. Bound for Halifax to load grain for the United Kingdom, the Ken kerry struck shortly after 10 p. m.. yesterday. An SOS sent out at 10:25 p. m., brought the tugs Banshee and Bon Scot out of Halifax harbor, but they were unable to locate her In the i blinding snowstorm. j Half an hour later, the Kenkerry's operator, using an emergency radio. reported that the engine-room was I flooded and the lighting system had j failed. Meanwhile the people of Portuguese Cove had heard distress signals. For hours they were In doubt about the Teasel's position, but a lull in the storm about 2 . m. revealed her leas than 100 yards from the point. ' Signal With LlRhrs. Immediately a score of men start ed along the shore, carrying lanterns, ropes and other equipment. C. R. When answering lights from the vessel indicated they were under stood, the operators gave the ship wrecked crew instructions. The first of the 28 to start across the line shortly after 4 a. m.. had to be hauled back aboard when the bas ket struck halfway between the ves sel and land. A second line was rocketed from the Kenkerry to a group of fishermen composing the rescue party. One by one the sailors hauled themselves hand over hand to safety. The res cue was completed before daylight. 10 A Red Cross training class In First Aid will be organized at a meeting to be held In the tire hall at Front and 3rd streets, Monday at 7 :30 p. m. The class will .be Instructed by Miss Marjorle Kelly, authorized Red Cross Instructor, assisted by a mem ber of the state police. Instruction will start Immediately after enroll ment, and any persons Interested In taking the course should be there promptly at the time set. Seth Bullls, chairman of first aid Instruction In the local Red Cross chapter, states that this will probab ly be the only general class held this season In Medford. As the class Is limited to about 30 persons, early en rollment Is desirable. The card party planned for Satur day, January IB. has been Indefinitely postponed, due to the Inclemen: weather and Illness of many of the members. Kabele. as announced last Sunday. The first will be a personal testi mony series on "Why I Believe," dealing with reasons why he believes In important Christian doctrines. The first will be given Sunday at the 11 a. m. service on "Why I Be lieve in a Personal God" a Ood who can see. hear, speak, know. love. will, exert power, etc. The series will be continued at the Sunday morning services. At the Sunday evening 7:30 serv ices Dr. Kabele will beein another series on a subject on which there is much confusion In the minds of msny: "Getting Converted" The first In the furies next Sunday night will deal with the subject: "What Is Scriptural Conversion?"
