Society and Club Events Reviewed for Week Edited by Irva Fewell Edwards Many Events Held Town Club During Christmas Season During the Christmas season the Town club has been tha center of many holiday occasions, with dances luncheons and teas furnishing en tertalnment for many Medford resi dents and students spending ths w cation at their homes In this city. The series of entertainments will be climaxed Monday night when mem bers of the club and guests gather for a New Year's eve dance. On Friday evening about 225 per sons, many of them members of the younger set, enjoyed a delightful tea dance given from 9 until 8 o'clock Afterwards most of those present at tended the Ail-College Night dance at Dreamland. A no-host dance was given at the Town club Thursday night, with 22 couples onjoylng the evening. At a luncheon Saturday, Mrs. B D. McCasKey was hostess at the club to eight guests, who were also en tcrtalned at bridge. FDR Aide To Wed Elks Temple Will Be Scene of Gay New Year Dance Cheery decorations of red, green and silver will be arranged attractive ly In tho Elks temple ballroom Mon day night, when the Medford lodge Is holding Its annual New Year's eve dance. Muslo that Is said to be the best obtainable on the coast will be furnished by Merle Carlson and his orchestra, a group of 13 entertain ers well known for their radio broad casts over Don Lee network, and for their Columbia recordings. Preparations are being completed for the most delightful party in many seasons, as a climax to the year's so- cial activities at the lodge. The committee for ticket sales has limited the attendance to 300 mem bers of the lodge and their out-of- town guests only, so that those pres ent may ..or-ioy the dance without being crowded. Large Gathering Marks University Dance on Friday The largest group of young people to assemble during the holidays gath ered at Dreamland hall Friday night for the Christmas dance sponsored by the Oregon Stat club. Students spending the racatlon at their homes, as well as students of high school and Southern Oregon normal, were present. Many post graduates of the high school, col leges, universities and their friends also attended, some having first at tended the Town clue tea dance or house parties. The hall was prettily decorated with Christmas green and crepe. Mu sic was furnished by Dlnty Moores orchestra. Larrabee of Chicago, has been announced, (Associated Press Photo) The beautiful oountry boms of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Bursell was the sosns of a hippy gathering Friday evening when the past matrons of Nevlta Chapter, O. B. 8 , snd tholr husbands were entertained. After the guests had all arrived Mr. and Mra. Bursell announced they had met to celebrate their thirtieth wedding anniversary. This was surprise to all present. Congratula tions were In order and also many reminiscences. Mrs. Jennie Merrltt rememVred Victor when he attended her school ln boyhood days. Mrs. Buraell spoke of her happy girlhood days snd of the many, many cnanges since ner marriage there were no electric lights, no paved streets or highways, when old Dobbin was the mode of travel, and of their first automobile ride with Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Norcross In their White steamer. Miss Eula Benson entertained the gueata with several James which pro vided lots of amusement. Mrs. Esther Merrltt Snnderson was Invited to sing. Bhe very graciously responded by singing "I love You Truly dedicating her song to the host and hostess. Earlier In the eve ning she had sung over the radio ln their honor. The decorations about the rooms were a beautiful expression of the holiday season. In the dining room the table was covered wltb a beauti ful lace cloth and was centered with a large bowl of flowers banked on be present. acn siae oy ngnted tapers. Above served. the table was a large canopy of wed' ding bells. At 11:30 a lovely lunch was served. Miss Hsnley sat at ths head of the table, pouring coffee. Bhe was as sisted by Miss Clare Hanley and Miss Eula Benson about the rooms.. Thirty years ago at what Is now known as the beautiful McCaskey place, Mr. Victor Bursell and Mine Bertha Conna were united ln mar riage by Rev. T. M. Jones at the bride's home on the evening of De cember 24, 1804. Mr. and Mrs. Bursell have made their home In Rogue River valley ever since, where they have a large circle of friends who are wishing them many more nappy years tnariYwr, will Club Will Hear Books Reviewed The Wednesday Study club meet at the usual hour on January 2 in the Girls' Community club rooms at 229 North Bartlett street. There were ninety guests present. After being enter- ta'ned from 3:30 until 0 o'clock at the Fluhrer home, many of the guests enjoyed a no-host dunce at the Town club. Hherwoods Go Routh for East-West Game Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Sherwood left Isst night tor Pasadena, Cal., where they will attend the Tour nament of Rosea and the east-west football game In the Rose Bowl on New Year's day. . Misses Boyle Invite Clients Misses Margarlte and Gertrude Boyle entertained Friday evening .at their home, Siskiyou Heights, with a buffet supper, following the tea dance at the Town club. Twenty-all guests were Invited, who attended the All-College night dance afterward at Dreamland. Fraser fllrls visit Parents The Misses Mildred and Virginia Fraser spent the Christmas holidays at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mra. H. A. Fraser, of this city. The young ladies attended school In Medford and have many friends here. Mildred returned to her home In Klamath Falls Wednesday and Vir ginia expects to Join her there short ly after New Year's. Miss McAllister Fiance Go South Miss Marguerite McAllister and her fiance. Mr. Wiley Pharos, left last evening for Pasadena, where they will spend New Year's with Mr. Phares' parents, Mr. and Mrs. U W. Phsres. They were accompanied as far as San Francisco by Mrs. Harold Hesaley, who has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Alton Hnlght of Jacksonville. In Pasadena, Miss McAllister and Mr. Phares will attend the Tournament of Roses and the east-west football game. M AUom Club Holds Meeting A no-host dinner mooting of the Allons club was held Saturday night at the home of Mrs. Timothy Dally at the Hillcrest orchard. After the dinner, 10 tables of bridge were en Joyed. Assisting Mrs. Dally were Mrs. Ed ward Leach, Mrs. George Codding, and Mrs. Rowland Smith. Miss Agnes Culver Becomes Bride of Alton M. Anderson Miss Agnes L. Culver, only daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Culver of Phoenli, was married to Alton M. Anderson of this city Friday. Dec. 39. at ths study of the Methodist church. Rev. Joseph Knotts officia ted. Only a few close friends attended the bride and bridegroom, who are both well known In Medford and vicinity. Immediately following the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson left on a snort honeymoon trip to San Francisco and Oakland, and then to Pasadena for the Tournament of Roses and the east-west football game. They will return to Medford next Wednesday. After that time they will be at home to their friends at 931 Queen Ann. W. F. M. H. to Meet With Mrs. Myers The Women's Foreign Missionary society of the First M. E. church will meet Wednesday afternoon. Jan uary 3. at the home of Mrs. O. V. Myers on the old North Pacific high way. A good attendance Is urged, as this will be the first meeting of the new year. Yongues Have ' Holiday Guests Mrs. E. L. Long of Portland Is spending New Year's In Medford at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mis. C. E. Yongue. Mrs. Long accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Yongue on a return trip from Port land, where they had spent Christ-1 mas at Mrs. Tongue's home. Mrs. Curry Is Delta President The Alpha Delta class of the First Christian church held Us Christmas party at the home of Mrs. J. T. Davis Thursday afternoon, December 20. A brief business session was presided over by the class president. I Mrs. C. M. Hon, at which time ths annual election of officers was held and plans made for remembering tha needy at Christmaa time. Mrs. James Grlgsby and Ruby Porter sang solos and Mrs. Ortgsby led In singing several Christmas csrols. Mrs. C. L. Goff acted S3 Santa Claua and superintended tha exchange of glfta. Officers elected for the ensuing year were: president, Mre. Allen Curry: vice president, Mrs. C. M. Hon: secretary-tree.aurcr, Mrs. W. L House. The rooms were profusely decor ated ln keeping with the Christmaa spirit, principal of which was a beautifully lighted tree. The com mittee ln charge served refresh ments. Town Club Will Usher In Year With Eve Dance Ending the years program of so cial activities and beginning the new. members of the Town club will give a New Years eve dance at the club Monday night.
