The Interesting feature of the awards was the large number of places taken by two rangers, one, Arthur Holmes of the United Btates Park service, and the other, L. D. Bailey of the United States Forest service. Their photo graphs took In everything from the dainty red bird on Its nest to the rocky slopes of mountain peaks and were outstanding In their merit. While no awards were offered on paintings, there was much fine com ment made on the four paintings of Crater Lake exhibited by H. 6. Cleve land, of Medford, and "Sunrise on Crater Lake" and "Mt. Shasta" shown by Mabel Russell Lowther, of Ash land. The Shasta -Cascade Wonderland association announces the third con test to be held at the convention at Red Bluff next year and will add to the above list "Wonders of the Won derland." Amateurs and professionals should save their best negatives. APPLEGATE DAM FOSTER PROJECT Initial steps toward the penning or a storage dam reservoir In the Applegate district were taken Wed nesday night at a meeting of Apple gale residents, held In the Ruch schoolhouae. - A committee composed of Edwin Taylor, T. M. Rowden, and PranK Preston waa named to report at a future meeting on the best mode of procedure, and what steps were nec essary to start. Miles Cantrall of Ruch acted as chairman of the meet ing, with William N. Carl u secre tary. Another meeting for the same pur pose to further dlecuae the dam plan ha been called for next Wednesday at the Ruch school at 8 p. ra it la now tentatively proposed to erect the proposed dam at what Is called "the Pat Swayne site."
