PAGE THREE ELKS' CHRISTMAS TREE SCHEDULED At a bond retirement meeting of the Elks lodge last night, further plans were made for the Dec. 13 lodge meeting when a class of six candidates will be received, and for the 1935 New Year's eve dance, to be held In the temple ballroom Dec. SI. Preparations are being madt to excel alt past New Years' eve dances, In making the celebration one befit ting the beginning of the new year. Surprises In the program, noise mak ers and favors will be provided to add to the entertainment, and all members are expected to make the usual "breakable" resolutions. On Dec. 20. the Elks will hold their annual charity Christmas tree. It was announced today, for Elks and their Invited guests. Another of the popular Elk's feeds with beer will be a part of the program, to be present ed In the basement of the temple. Exalted Ruler H. N. Butler urges all Elks who can possibly do so to at tend, whether or not they live In this community, as It Is essential that each do his part In helping the many needy this year. With the Initiation and Introduc tion of the group on Dec. 13, Sec retary Ernest Scott announces that the total of new members received during the past seven months will have reached 193, one of the great est Increases for any seven month period In the lodge's history. Those who will ride the goat are W. B. Johnston, Jr., Manuel Lteb man, Franklin H. George, Thomas N. Billings, Kenneth W. Parrett and Kelton C. Strader. Robert LaRocque, J. P. Moore and Vance K. Wolgamott will be received through transfer demit. Schil Ensf Judge Charles M. Thomas of Salem, p ibllc utilities commissioner, and former resident of Mcdford, arrived this mornlnar on official business connected with the California Oregon Power company rate investigation. and will spend the next six or seven days taking steps preparatory to a possible hearing, date for which has not been set. C. R. Lester, director of engineers. and John Bagley, assistant engineer for the P. TJ. C, both of Salem, ar rived this morning with Judge Thomas. The representatives of the utilities commission will meet with Copco officials In an attempt to set tle all possible points of dispute be tween the two companies before a complete Investigation la made. IN NEED OF CLOTHES Announcement waa made today that the Welfare Exchange, conduct ed in the city hall, la practically without clothing for women and children, and as there are numerous call for these articles each day, a request is made that persons bavins articles that might be used In the Exchange, please telephone the head quarters. Miss Helen Carlton, who Is In charge of the Exchange, said today that the people In Medford and near by communities have responded splendidly when requests for clothing had been made, and this co-operation waa greatly appreciated by those at the Exchange.
