SUNDAY, DECEMBER 2, 1931 i Society and Club Events Reviewed for Week Edited by Irva Fewell Edwards Thanksgiving Party At the Carpenter Gay Holiday Event Thanksgiving was a pleasant day for Med ford 's society, with a num ber of dinner parties some for jUBt family groups, others Inviting friends to Join them. At the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred 8. V. Carpenter, covers were placed for t Mr. and Mrs. H. Chand ler Bgan, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jor dan, Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Burgess. Mist McLean. Miss Margaret Hub bard, C. S. Newhall, W. W. Aldrleh, Julte Carpenter, Harlow Carpenter, and the host and hostess. Later In the day. they were Joined by about thirty other guests, and all spent an enjoyable evening together. Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Blddle In vited for Thanksgiving dinner, Mr. and Mrs. Corbln Edgell, Mrs. Alice Holloway and Tom Emmens. Mrs. W. B. Blddle was also prestnt. Tnoy later Journeyed to the Carpenter home,' "Topsides," for the evening. Mrs. J, J. Emmens and son Rob ert, who hove been In the east for the past two months, returned Fri day from Philadelphia. Mr. and Mrs. Corbln Edgell are now residing at Holloway orchard, sine the J. F. Spauldlng have taken another ranch In the valley this winter, where they have moved The Spauldlngs formerly resided t Holloway orchard. Friday, the Duplicate Bridge club met at the Medford hotel for an evening of cards, with Mrs. Ous Newbury in charge. The Colony club will hold Its reg ular monthly meeting on Friday, December 7, It has beqp announced. Henselmans Hosts During Past Week To Honor Visitors For the Thanksgiving holidays, Mr. and Mrs. Oeorge Henselman hnd as their guests pr. and Mrs. Enrl Camp bell of San Jose, Ca., brother and stster-ln-lsw of Mrs. Henselman. Thoy were guests at a family dinner on Thanksgiving day at the Honsclman home. ' On Friday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Honsclman entertained in compli ment to Dr. and Mrs. Campbell, In viting sixteen guests to dinner. Dr. Campbell Is an Instructor at the Ban Jose Teachers college. Invited for the afternoon were Ann Van Valzah, Alpha Whillock, Juanlta Edwards, Nona Heyland, Dorothy Ter rott, Jean Smith, G retch en McAllis ter and Betty Applegate. Honor Guests Here At Reames Chapter Reames Chapter No. 66, O. E. S., held a most Interesting meeting Wed nesday evening, November 38, and a delightful social meeting was enjoyed by all present. There were 11 past patrons and 14 past matrons present as honor guests of the evening. Several visitors from grants Pass, Central Point, Ashland and eastern Oregon were present. ' 4- ( Roosevelt School Presents Program Thanksgiving day was appropriately observed by the Roosevelt school on Wednesday afternoon In the school auditorium with the following pro gram: "America and flag salute, by the school; pantomime of Thanksgiving, 1A-2B grades; Thanksgiving exercise, 4B pupils; "A Thanksgiving Prayer," IB class: "Landing of the Pilgrims," Harris Janes; "Harvest Home In Eng land," Jeanette House; Pilgrim pos ter exercise, 3B pupils; "The First Thanksgiving," 3B-3A pupils, and songs, 6B-6A classes. Alaska Is Topic of Study Club's Meet "Alaska" la the subject of the U!k to be given this week by Mrs. N. T. Hodges, at the regular meeting of ti'.c Wednesday Study club. Mrs. T. W. Miles will give the review on the book "Sourdough Gold," and the current topics of the day will be discussed by Mrs. A. J. Hanby, , Eagles Auxiliary Card Party Tuesday The regular monthly card party by the Women's Auxiliary of the Fra ternal Order of Eagles will be held at the Eagles hall, Tuesday, December 4th at 8 o'clock, It has been announced. The women's auxiliary card parties are becoming more popular each month and It la expected that a largo number will attend. Plnoohle and five hundred will be In play and prizes are to be given the winners. Anyone Interested Is cordially Invit ed to attend. A supper Is to follow playing. The formal dancing party at the Town club last evening was attend ed by about 135 persons, with a number entertaining prior to the party. Mr. and Mrs. George Roberts In vited a number to their Crown Hill home for cocktails preceding the dance. During the past week, several groups entertained at the Town club, a number enjoying Thanksgiving dinner there. Saturday afternoon. Mrs. J. B. Kirk was hostess at a small lunch eon at the Town club. Apollo Pupils Give Interesting Recital In Christian Church With a deftness and skill In finger work that would he a credit to piano artists, students of Sebastian Apollo, who were presented in recital Friday evening at the First Christian church, ably played their selections on the program. The majority of the students had memorized the numbers, and each an nounced the names of the pieces he was playing. Several complicated se lections were given by some of the younger pupils, and they received mucTV applause from the large num ber In the audience. Mrs. W. C. Ingham, one of Mr. Apollo's advanced students, was un able to be present, and James Stev ens, baritone, who was to sing, was also unable to attend. A selection from "II Trovatore,4 by Verdi, and "Impromptu," by Wake field, were the violin solos that little Vivian Freeman, a student of Mrs. Wm. 'JL Bolger, played. Mra. Bolger accompanied her at the piano. Students participating In the re cital were Gloria Wunsch, Penelope Winston, Phyllis elevens, Bobby Hoag land, Jean Pruitt, Genevieve Tred- gold. Presbyterian Group Meets This Evening The regular meeting of the Pres byterian young people will, be held In the church parlors Sunday eve ning at 6:30.
