Snyder of Lakevlew, dis trict deputy grand exalted ruler for Oregon aouth, was the speaker of the evening at the Initiatory meeting last night of the Med ford Elk lodge, ad dressing the group on the three fea tures of the national El lea" program a aet forth by Michael F. Those Initiated were Clarence Ran kin. Dan Phelan. Howard S. LeClerc. W. Harry GUI and H. Kletb Burre'.l. C. h. Reynolds, formerly of this city and now of Ashland, was admitted through demit from the Alliance, Neb., lodge, and A. T. Burelaon of this city was received from the Porgo, N. D., lodge. One of the best feeds that the lodge has yet turned out was pre pared last night, for which those In charge were highly complimented. Mr. Snyder spoke interestingly on the work of the grand lodge In fur thering the three-point program, the phases of which are pro-American-Ism, acts of frlendehfp, and the youth movement. He also praised the activ ities of the Medford lodge, and the work of Ernest Scott, secretary, In swelling the membership rolls by more than 200 In the past few months. In dlicuaslng the pro-Americanism campaign, Mr. Snyder repeated the word of Grand Exalted Ruler Shan non, that the vastneas of the Com munist movement in America was far greater than Is publicly realized, and that the Communist party has aet up Intricate subsidiary organizations reaching into every section of the country. The menace is more formidable than numbers alone." Mr. Snyder told i the lodge. "The United States Is at I present divided Into 30 districts, each with Its own committee. Each district la divided Into sections and aub-sec-tiorut, with other committees set up In accordance with the residential lo cations of members of the Commun Its party. Membership In the or ganizations throughout the country totaled one million, two bundled thousand person In 1033, as was vealed In statements from leaders of the party." Mr. Snyder continued with descriptions of the conditions that have been found in various sec tions of the country, and the fUnt that la being made by individuals and organizations such as the B. P. O. E. The district deputy explained the youth movement of the Elks, as it was explained by Grand Exnlted Ruler Shannon. The movement has been Inaugurated for the purpose of train ing the young of the nation In the manner which countries of Europe have adopted, but for the "Inculca tion of the Ideals of love of home and country an Insurance policy of peace for our land and a guarantee j of the renewal of the youth of this order," Instead of mllltarlam. Mr. Snyder also talked on the acts of friendship program, under which each of the 1500 lodges throughout the country is asked to perform some act of charity each month. A prize of 91000 has been offered by the or der for the lodge which Is most con sistent in following out this program.
