Miss Esther Widasky of Piedmont, Calif., and Kenneth M. Pl bunh of, Selma, Ore., were married, with Captain George Wood all, dis trict chaplain, of the Civilian Con servation corps, officiating. The couple was attended by Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Wiedman of this city. Mrs. Fibush arrived here today on the Shasta from California. Both Mr. and Mrs. Ftbush were graduated from the University of California. Mr. Pi bush Is educational adviser at Camp Kerby at Selma, and also at Camp G-asquet in California. Canfields Leaving For Washington, I. C. Mr. and Mrs. David H. Canfield are leaving this evening for Washing ton. D. C, where Mr. Caufleld. acting superintendent of Crater lake national park, will attend a four-day meet ing cf park superintendents and su perintendents of national monu ments. Mr. and Mrs. Canfield expect to return the latter part of the month. Mrs. Lamb Honored At Birthday Tarty. Mrs. Leonard L. Lamb was honor guest last evening at a no-hostess dinner party., given at the home dt Mrs. John R. Murray on East Main street, in 'honor of her birthday. Farewell Party Is tilven Reeds. BEAGLE, Nov. 9. (Spl.) A fare well party was given at the Beagle Hall Tuesday evening, November 0. for Mrs. Anna Reed and daughter. Violet, and Mrs. Katie Nunoon, who. left Wednesday morning for Los Angeles to spend the winter. Dancing was the feature of the evening and refreshments were served at midnight. Hazel Cantrall and Ora Bennett were hostesses. To Attend Game In Portland Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Stennett and Richard Wilson are leaving this after noon for Portland, where they will attend the Oregon-Oregon State foot ball game on Saturday. In Corvallis, they will be Joined by Miss Suzettc Stennett, who is attending Oregon State college. A. was held In the high school auditorium November 3. President Lottie Bowman was In charge. A pro gram of group singing was -furnished by the first to fourth grade pupils. These songs were written and com posed by the pupils under the direc tion of Mrs. Ray Hunsaker. After a short business meeting plans were discussed for serving soup for the noon lunch. Principal M. E. Coe suggested building a kitchen in part of the school basement. A com mittee was appointed to plan ways and expenses of the kitchen. The high school had the largest number of parents present. Mrs. George Phythian Is leaving tomcrrow morning for Iowa City. Iowa, her former home, and plans to continue to Chicago for a month's visit before returning to Medford. f league Meeting Hotel Mori ford The local branch of the Oregon League of Western Writers will meet on the mezzanine floor of the Hotel Medford tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock. Pickel left on the Shasta this morning for Portland, where she will spend the next several days vis iting her sister, Mrs. K. Brandon, SALEM, Nov. 9.-(AP)-B. B. Wood, who has assisted in liquor purchas ing for the state since the Inception of the Oregon liquor control com mission, was today appointed acting purchasing agent for the commission to succeed N. R. Leopold of Port land, who died recently. The announcement of the appoint ment was made by George Sammis, state liquor administrator. L I E Voters of Oregon Name Democratic Majority in House and Send Flock of Strangers to Next Session By CLAYTON V. BKRNH ARl Associated Press Staff Writer SALEM, Ore., Nov. 9. (AP) Legis lative neophytes will rule the 1935 assembly. 11 Not content with upsetting previous dope and recent custom by naming a Democartic majority In the house for the first time in 56 years, the electorate last Tuesday placed control of legislation In the hands ot stran gers to the state capitol, headed by a new chief executive. In the house alone 44 members, both Democrats and Republicans, of the 60 have never served In the leg islature. The senate, usually a vet eran bdy, will see rtne new legis lators in addition to three who were promoted from the lower house. With this array of new talent mot anything can be expected in the way of proposals and changes In organi zation. With but 16 veterans in the house, the old-timers will have less chance of ignoring the new members as usually is the case. Veterans Seek Speakership The race lor speakership at this time appears to be between two vet erans, J. E. Cooler, Democrat of Lin coln county, and Earl Hill, Repub lican of Lane county. It was also Indicated an effort would be made to name a new member from Multno mah, Howard LaTourette. or William L. Graham, & veteran, both Demo crats. However, legislators will be influ enced by two situations. One Is that seldom is a new member named leader of an organization over a veteran. The other is the custom of naming Ask for S. & H. McAlear of Washington county; w. R. Osborne, to succeed Arthur McPhtlllps, Democrat; Lyle D. Thomas of Polk county to succeed Dean Walker, who was promoted to the senate; A. Rennie of Benton, to succeed H. C, Herron. In Marlon county two new Repub licans were named to the house, Ron ald Jones and Walter , Fuhrer, who succeed Carle Abrams and Otto Pau lus; Howard S. Merriam was named from Lane county to succeed E. A. McCornash, who was promoted to the senate; Glenn N. Riddle was added from Douglaa county to suc ceed A. Q. Clarke; W. A. Johnson was elected from Josephine county to succeed W. T. Miller. E. n. Fatland will succeed Earl Snell to the legislature from the 22nd district, while Carl Engdahl will take the place of Dr. James A. Best from Umatilla county. Best was pomotxl to the senate. C. T.
