Carpenter, of the Jacksonville highway, left last evening by train for Ventura, Cal.. where they wtU spend the winter. Appears at Court Ernest Lester Huff, 20, a native of Pennsylvania, ap peared in city court Saturday morning to answer to charges of Wckless driv ing, having been arrested by city po lice Friday night at Sixth and River side. He was sentenced to $25 fine or 334 days in the city Jail. Ferns Baby Better Little Billy Ferns, two-year-old baby who Friday morning had a fragment of apple lodged in his windpipe, were reported much better last evening at the Community hos pital. By coughing, the child had dis lodged the particle of apple, which for a time had greatly hindered his breathing. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Ferns of Fern Valley. Returns from .Vort h Ted Higgins returned yesterday on the Oregoniaa from Portland, where he had been for the past few days on business. Visit Mother Clyd and Claude Leaverton of Columbus, Mont., were here the latter part of the week visit ing their mother, Mrs. S. A. Leaver ton of Ross Lane, who is recovering from a major operation. Here for Funeral Mrs. Ralph Arn old and son. Bill, arrived yesterday morning from Tillamook. Ore., to at tend the funeral here Saturday of Mrs Arnold's mother-in-law, Mrs. R. H. Arnold, who passed away Tuesday. Leave Friday Charles Burnett, agent for the Chicago, Rock Island railway, left Friday night for Portland, hiring been In Medford on a short business visit. E. A. Groves, also agent for Rock Island railway, left the sam evening for San Francisco, having ar rived with Mr. Burnett. Braeklnreeds Leaving Mr. and Mrs. Alin BracWnreed will be leaving Med ford at the end of this month, to mske their home is Portland, where Mr. Bracklnreen will have offices In the American National bank build ing, and will act as tax counsel to a group of several of the leading law firms of Multnomah county, Mr. Brackinreed's Income tax law practice in this city will be taken over by his office partner, A. Orin Schenek, who will retain the offices In the Medford building which they have occupied to gether for several years past.
