Oct. 8 (Spl.) Mr. and Mrs. Doll Lexnmon and son Rosco and their daughter and hus band, Mr. and Mrs. Charles, all of Ashland, visited Mr. and Mrs. John Letteken Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Lloyd and two small sons of San Bernardino. Calif., arrived for a visit, with their parents. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Roberts. They drove on up to Yakima, Wash., Tues day to visit Mrs. Lloyd's sister and family. Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Pur din. Mrs. George McClaln of Phoe nix accompanied them as far as Port land. Jack H1U was severely hurt ons day last week when ha fell from a scaf folding while roofing their new hou&e. He was rushed Immediately to Orants Pass by his nearest neighbor, Cleve Wilson. He was afterward taken to the veterans' hospital at Rosebuvg. The severest lnjurlec were on his head and shoulder which struck against a large sharo timber, Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Gibson and fam ily have returned from Malln and are In their old home near the Cougle mill. Chas. Venctl and sons are getting out poles for the electric line. Mr. and Mrs. Evan Moore who have recently moved to Grants Pass for the winter were out home last week for a load of canned fruit and veg etables. Mr. Moore Is leaving soon for Klamath to work in the potato har vesting. At the regular grange meeting Thursday evening It was voted to fix the flues, put steps up the side of the building as was flrat planned: also to allow the high school the use of the hall for basketball and otheV activities again this winter. Foster Card has returned home af ter having spent several weeks In Washington picking apples. Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Manuel drove out to their place Sunday from Grants Pass and made preparations for leav lng for the winter. Mrs. Vern Hartman returned home from the hop yards Thursday evening of last week and Mr. Hartman re turned from Washington Friday. They expect to resume the operation of their shingle mill Immediately, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Watklns of Med ford and Mr. and Mrs. Qeorge Mc Claln of Phoenix visited Saturday at the C. W. Roberta home. Mr. and Mrs. MoClaln stayed over for a few days' visit. Mr. and Mrs. Bristol of Toledo, Ohio, are here now for an Indefinite stay. Mr. Bristol Is president of the Oregon Lime Products Co., of Williams. George Topping of Ban don la visit ing Mrs. Mary Toppings. Friday evening was the Initiation of the high school freshmen. Students gathered at the school house around a big bonfire and played games for a while. The 11 freshmen were then taken to the store and, grimly guard ed by upper classmen, were marched back in their bare feet over the gravel road. They were then given a vision test being made to read with first one ya then the other covered. Refresh ments of sandwiches were then served. The nelgh hood was shocked to hear of the pass ing away of Grandpa Smith. He was laid to rest In the Antloch cemetery Monday afternoon. Not many from here attended the services as It was not known. Sympathy is extended to the family. Charlea Walker and daughter Char- lene and son Jess returned home from Salem Thursday. They hare been working In the hop yards and fruit. The Walker family left for Jefferson. Ore. Wednesday to make their home. They have rented ft place there for the coming year, Mr. Dennlson at Salem came down to his ranch here Friday and return ed home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Sanderson and family attended the family reunion at Mrs. Annie Sanderson's at Central Point. Out-of-state guests were Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Trebesch of Tacoma, Wash., Mrs. Clara Jager of Duluth. Minn., and Mrs. Alma Messtkomer of Wenatchee, Wash. Preaching services were held at the Antloch school house Friday toy Rev. Johnson of Central Point. All enjoy ed and profited by the message. Halt, Medford gardener who wandered Into his own hunting camp Friday morn ing after being lost In the Green springs mountains for three days and nights. Is now apparently none th worse for his hazardous experlene. Mr. Hale, who is 70 years of age, hag gone back to his regular duties after ft few days' rest, and speaks of his wanderings In the forests east of Hyatt lake as Just another hunting; trip, although it was one that caused onslderable anxiety on the part of tl.a whole city. Mr. Hale stated, after lecuperatlnf sufficiently, that he suffered moro from thirst than from any other hard ship he endured. He was without water from Wednesday until Friday morning. A U hough saying he would have frozen to death the first nigh If he had not found a deserted cabin in which he built a fire with his ouly match, Mr. Hale declared that th other two nights wer not uncom fortably cold. He manaH'd to get ft little sleep both of these nights, al though he had no way of buUding fire. Mr. Hale said that at no time wag he afraid or even worried about find ing hla way out alive. He finally made his way to camp by following' a line of ordinary white thread which, he thinks some other hunter stretch ed between trees and bushes as al guide back to the same camping spot.
