(AP) Two men who confessed to a series of thefts from fraternities on Oregon State college campus, -were today un der sentence to five years In Oregon penitentiary. The two, who said they were Eu gene H. Hose, 26. of Chicago, and John C. Eckstrom, 25, of Racine, Wis., were sentenced In night court here less than 3S hours after the thefts. They were irrestM In Med ford. Police said the men admitted sim ilar thefts at Washington State col lege. The two had more than 41,300 on them when they were picked up at Medford when their chartered plane landed on a flight from Eugene. About $775 stolen from students here was recovered. PORTLAND, Oct. . (AP) The state emergency relief administration today approved and appropriated more than HO0.000 for use during this month in operation of transient relief, of single men's camps, and for a score of work projects. The single men's camps alone will cost $24,000. Transient relief will mean an expense of about $39,000. (AP) The German steamer Wlldenfels reported by wireless today that the Belgian steamer Charles Jose, with a gross tonnage of 551, sank four miles west of Haaka lightship at 11 p. m., last night during a severe storm. Distress signals were received at the lightship but did not Identify the sender. Several rescue ships searched the area In vain. The Wlldenfels picked up a life boat containing one member of the Charles Jose's crew but the other nine who launched another lifeboat, were believed to be lost. I MANILA, P. I., Oct. 6. (AP) Four fishermen were drowned, many per sons Injured and hundreds left home less by the typhoon which swept over northern Luzon island last night, dis rupting communication and causing heavy property damage. The typhoon, the second to devastate this section in a week, blew down telephone and telegraph lines and washed out rail road tracks.
