(UP) A battle for aerial aupremacy In transconti nental transportation, reminiscent of the atruggle between railroad barons of the 90s, la being waged today, with modern, luxurious hign speed air liners competing for the coast to coast truffle. The current rivalry la between the two transcontinental airline operators, the United Air Unes and Transcontinental-Western Air Express, success or to TAT. Previously, this had been Unlted's "exclusive" territory. Into what had been TWA's exclusive field, United ran a schedule Into Phlladel phla. The next sector In this battle may be in the coast division, it reported that TWA will invade the San Francisco route from Window, Ariz. Officials anticipate that this battle will, develop fully before the Inter- state commeroe commission, acting under authority granted by the laat congress to regulate alr-linea. Inter cedes. Hearings have been scheduled In Washington next month, but con trol over these two companies la sev eral months in the future. Mammoth Resource The resources of the two antag onists are huge. GIRL HAS COLLECTION OF WHITE ELEPHANTS PITTSBURGH. (UP) Eleven- year-old Verna Wagner has a "non competitive" hobby collecting white elephants. The little girl, whose amoitinn is to be an elephant trainer, hae 73 toy elephants she collected over a period of five years. Her rarest prize In the collection Is a. small Ivory elephant a savage presented her at a circus. Noticing her Interest in elephants, the man obtained the ivory one and gave it to her. Her collection, exhibited several times, contains miniatures of ivory, glass, bronze and other metals. Larry Schado has secured permis sion from the city to reshlngle his residence at 989 South Oakdale, with cost estimated at $350. Col. w. H. Paine of 66 North Orange will erect new steps on the front porch of bis residence, at a cost of 40. Probe License Plate Cache COSHOCTON, O. (UP) A cache of dismantled automobiles and fake Illinois license plates, discovered in a Cochocton county cemetery, was Investigated by Ohio and Illinois au thorities. Daniel D. (UP) Naval ra dio stations saved the government more than $3,300,000 In the last year. More than half the saving, accord ing to the navy department, was on communications handled for depart ments other than the navy. Thirty -alx shore radio stations and 43 radio direction finding stations are maintained by the navy at a to tal cost of 795,684.34.
