The men he sent were all expert htllmen. The state police also responded, and de tailed Game Warden Ed Walker to the case. Members of the forest ser vice also gave valuable assistance. All the agencies voluntarily placed them selves under Laidley, who organized a circling movement through the area where Van Dyke was last seen. Laidley states that as a result of the co-operation the searchers were less than "half an hour behind Van Dyke" when he came to the road and was found. Following Van Dqke'a return to safety last Tuesday, searchers still In the field found where Van Dyke had camped Sunday night with his camp- ! fire still smoking. He was trailed to j where he camped Monday night and were hot on his trail Just before Van , Dyke emerged, weak and wobbly, on j the road. 1 Laidley, when Can Dyke failed to appear per schedule, conducted a one man hunt all Sunday afternoon. All the tracks and signs found by the searchers Indicate that Van Dyke did hla wandering around Gray RocS butte and near the head of Bitter creek, and that at one stage he had passed within & short distance of where his auto was parked and at another time had crossed the rood upon which he was found.
