Rebekah Convention Attended By Many From Local Lodge s The annual Rebekah convention of District No. 12 met at Gold Hill Bep- v..- firt. with six lodges of the district represented. The meeting was called to order oy Ametnyn iuits No. 7 and seating of the convention office followed with Ethyl Weed of Olive Rebekah Lodge No. 3B presid ing. Orace Christiansen, president of the Rebekah Assembly of Oregon, was present, also Stella Merrick, past pres ident of the Jurisdiction of Califor nia. The morning was spent la routine business. In the afternoon reports from the different lodges and Past Noble Grand clubs were given, Interesting talks by the president and other officers. The Invitations to meet In Glen dale next year, also to meet In Cen tral Point In 1036, were accepted by the convention. The following officers vr-.t seated: Pearl Ferguson, chairman; Marie Richardson, vice-chairman: Ora Carl son, secretary and treasurer. In the evening a banque twaa given by Gold Hill lodge, after which Hope No. 14 of Ashland exemplified the degree work In an Impressive man ner. One candldte from Oranta Pass waa Initiated. A beautiful memorial was given by No. as, also a tribute to a past chairman of the convention. The president of the assembly and chairman of the convention were each presented a gift. American Legion Auxiliary Resumes Meeting This Week Monday evening, Sept. 10, will be the first meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary since the aummer vacation. The meeting will begin promptly at 6 o'clock In the armory club rooms. This la to be an Impor tant meeting as many matters of Im portance are to be discussed and voted upon. All members and all of ficers are asked to be present as a meeting of the officers la called after the meeting. Sunny Sisters Circle To Meet On Tuesday The Sunny Sisters Circle of the Presbyterian church will hold Its first meeting after the summer vacation Tuesdsy, September 11, at the home of Mrs. J. A. Perry on West Main street. Luncheon will be served at 1 o'clock and each member Is requested to bring a half dosen sandwiches and her own service. The committee will furnish the other articles for the luncheon. Mrs. G. H. West, presi dent, requests all members to attend. The next meeting, In October, will Include reports of how each member earned a dollar during vacation. Mr, and Mrs. Il.ricka Return From 'Kounrt-the-WnrIri Trip Mr. and Mrs. Hrrlwrt Derlcks of Los Angeles, who formerly resided here, spent several days In the val ley with Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Lamport on their return home from a trip around the world. They were at Diamond Lake for two daya and left Friday afternoon for the south. The coupla reported an Interestlns trip, having spent ! dava In England, which they greatly snjoyed. Other points visited Included the Hawaiian Islands, China, Japan, India, Egypt France: Swltsertand, Holland (Mr Derlck's old home), Belgium ami Italy. However, their return to southern Oregon proved enjoyable, they re ported, and they were glad to vls:t this section once more. Williams gave a very interesting talk on the care and planting of lrts Thursday night at the Garden club meeting. At the plant sale which will be held soon many ot her choice Iris roots will be offered. If conditions warrant, a flower ahow will be held this fall. It was voted to extend the time for the membership contest until the first Thursday in October when prizes will be awarded. 44 Bridge Party Given By Misses Slagle Misses Ethel and Bethel Slagle were hostesses on Friday evening at their home entertaining with a bridge party, to which a number of their friends were invited. Miss Doris Pat ton won high score prize, with conso lation going to Miss Louise Elrod. The traveling prize waa won by Mrs. Budd Ball. The two spent an Interesting summer, remain ing at Yellowstone National park for three and a half days, and at a Cen tury of Progress Exposition In Chica go, a week. The Rebekah degree Was conferred on three candldatea by the newly organized degree staff, under the direction of Captain Minnie Bry ant, assisted by Carrie McDannel. Orace Christiansen of Portland, president of the Rebekah Assembly, made her official visit and gave an interesting and Instructive talk. Dr. Dye Speaks On Missionaries, China The Women's Missionary society of the First Christian church held its regular monthly meeting In the recreation hall of the church on Wed nesday afternoon. The call to order waa a selection of sacred music followed by prayer by Mrs. C M. Hon. Mrs. P. J. W 11 mot, president, conducted the business session. A hymn by the society, "I Need Thee Every Hour" preceded the Im pressive devotional period, led by Mrs. I. H. Gove, assisted by Floyd Collar. Mrs. L. Q. Gentner led the closing prayer. Mra. Gove and group had prepared a splendid program on the topic, "Christ In the Modern World," but the entire lesson period was given to Dr. Royal J. Dye. national worker for the United Christian Missionary so ciety, who was here for this day. Dr. Dye gave a most Interesting and inspiring talk on the work and conditions in China, reviewing the work of Emma Lyon in her 42 years of service in that field. He also told of the progress of the work In Bo lenge, Africa where he spent fifteen years as a pioneer missionary. The social hour followed and re freshments were served by the com mittee. Woman's Association To Meet ot Church The Woman's Association of tne First Christian church will meet on Wednesday afternoon at, a o'clock la the recreational hall of the church. Miss Carlton to Motor East with Ir. Warner Miss Mildred Carlton and Dr. Es tella Ford Warner, are leaving Med ford Thursday by motor for Wash ington. D. C, it was learned yesterday.
