Ora, Bept. 7 (AP) One- ot the greatest wilderness areas ol th United States, wnera on can travel for 1160 miles Id on direc tion without crossing a road, baa been officially set aside In northern Washington as the "North Cascade primitive area." C. J. Buck, regional forester here, made the announcement today. The area comprises 801,000 acres, a terri tory considerably larger than M&ssa' cbusetu, and aa large aa Olacler Na- tlonal park. It lies in the Mount Baker and Chelan national forests, "In designating this primitive area,'1 Buck said, "the forest service la meet, Ing the increasing demand of our population for the preservation of certain primeval wilderness areas to be handed down in an undisturbed state to future generations. Contrary to our usual policy of opening recrea tion areas, there will be no roada, no hotels or cabin colonies In this prlml' tlve area."
