"that yon are on your way to
Singapore, and only put In here be

WASHINGTON, Aug. 25. (AP)
The highest level of wholesale food
prices since August, 1931, was re
ported today by the labor department
for the weelc ended August 18.
For the same amount of food the
retailer had to pay II In 192a, he
had to pay 4 cents last week.
The department's Index for the
weelc was 2.9 per cent above that for
the previous week and 10 per cent
above that for the corresponding
week last year.
Wholesale commodity prices In gen
eral rose to 76.1 per cent of the 1926
average, an Increase of 0.S per cent
over the previous week.
The farm products group also
reached a new high for the year. The
Index for the week was 68.9 com
pared with 67.6 a year ago and 49.9
two years ago.

Relief Administrator Hopkins,
turning from a six weeks' study of
European relief methods, said today
he had come reluctantly to the be
lief that "we have got to have a cash
benefit somewhere In the picture for

firmly convinced that unemployment
Insurance must be fitted Into the
New Deal.
He predicted revival of the Wagner
Lewis unemployment Insurance bill

fruits showing advances over the
previously posted figures. Reasons for
the advances were given as improved
buying demand and Increased oper
ating costs.
Apricots, peaches and cherries
showed the greatest Increases. Apri
cots showed an average of 50 cents.
No. 2 choice being $2.10 against
$160 In 1933, and other grades ac
cordingly.
Peaches were 30 cents above 1933
opening prices for the best grades
and cherries go to $2.20 from $1.90,
No. 2'i choice and 12 from $1.45 No.
2 2 standard. Advances In other
lines run from 10 to 20 cents.
