S. 0., reports the heaviest correspondence from prospectus students In four or five years. The preponderance of the requests for Information ask about the possibilities of obtaining employ ment, he says. Many of the prospec tive students declare they will not be able to attend college this fall unless they have some financial assistance. Although the federal government, through the state emergency relief administration, will distribute nearly 13500 a month to needy students at the college, this and other agencies will be hard pressed to meet the great demand for student employ ment, Mr. Lemon believes. Advance applications for admission to the college give every indication of a beelthy increase In enrollment, the registrar reports, and the outlook la encouraging. Freshman week, a period set aside for beginning student to become oriented and to have plenty of time to consult with their advisers, will begin Monday, September 34 and close the following Saturday. Sopho mores, Juniors and seniors will regis ter Saturday, September 39 and regu lar class work will begin Monday, October 1. U. S. MUST DRAFT NEW YORK, Aug. 24. (AP) Harry L. Hopkins, federal relief administra tor, returned today on the 8. 8. Washington from a survey of Euro pean relief measures, convinced that the United States must work out relief program of Its own. "It was made clear to me that we must find an American way of meet ing the hazards of the economic sys tem," he said, ."such as unemploy ment and old age Insurance, rather than copy the schemes they have abroad. "I think that some type of unem ployment insurance, coupled with a permanent program of public works that would be non-competltlve with private enterprise should be worked out." The committee, consisting of Sena tor Henry L, Corbett, chairman; E. P. Mahaffey and Lynn 8. McCready, hoped to be able to recommend an equitable schedule for standardisa tion of aalarlea by October 1. The group will consider vast differ ences in salaries oi employes doing the ssme type of work. At present, employes In some state departments are paid much more than employes in other departments doing similar work. . State commissions, especially the game and fish commissions, pay con siderably larger salaries among their employes than do other departments. The state payroll approximates 650,000 a month. In starting the survey, the gov ernor pointed out that he had long felt that serious Inequalities had ex isted between the salary schedules of the various state departments. "I believe a study of this kind would be extremely helpful In arriv ing at a more uniform and equitable basis of payment,' the governor said An investigation will entail con siderable study and research, ascer taining variances in pay among the different departments, committee members said. The governor hopes to make use of the report In connection with prep aration of the biennial budget. Two years ago the same commit tee studied state salaries at the re quest of Governor Meier to recom mend salary reductions, then neces sary. CANADA TO KEEP FODDER SUPPLY OTTAWA, Aug. 34. (AP) The Canadian government today forbade exportation of fodder except under licenses provided by the new mar keting law. The order for the regulation of ex ports by license was issued with sur veys Indicated the extent of the shortage of fodder crops in all parts of Canada. The activities of specu lators also was said to have led to the decision. The statement Issued by the office of the prime minister estimated the hay and clover crop of Canada this year at only 0,884,000 tons, compared with an average of 16,000,000 tons for the four years from 1926 to 1030. Death Preferable to Starvation BOISE, Idaho (UP) Rather than let antelope starve, the state game commission Is going to allow hunt ers to kill some of them this fall. Between September 10 and 30, ISO hunters, residents of the state, who have paid 910 for the privilege, will be allowed to hunt them In Butte, Custer, Clark, Jefferson, and Lemhi counties.
