CHIEFTAIN VISITS Major General Malln Craig, com mander of the ninth corp area, and Mrs. Craig were visitors In Medford Friday evening. They continued north on their 4200-mile motor trip Satur day morning. Oeneral Craig, whose success In organizing the CCC program In the ninth corp area haa been regarded as an outstanding example of military administration, spent but half an hour In conference with Major Clare H. Armstrong, commander of the Medford CCC district. General and Mrs. Craig are driving their own car on an Inspection trip of the ninth corp area. "The Medford district has been running very smoothly and I am well pleased with the showing that has been made here," General Craig said. 'The national park and forest serv ice have been accomplishing wonder ful results In their handling of the work projects and the army's hand ling of the camps ha assured com fortable, healthful living conditions for the men." Although General Craig, as com mander of the ninth corps area, is re sponsible for the administration of all army activities In the 13 western states and Alaska, one of his greatest Interests Is the civilian conservation corps project.
