The Italian has been malting use of "Jumping Joe" Sav oldl's famous drop-kick, which he demonstrated Inst week In flattening Pat McOIll, Nebraska Irishman, In leas than a minute after the starting of the gong. Nininger, president of the circuit, and Billy Hulen, league secretary, sees the pennant winning Orante Pass Mer chant and the second place Ewauna Red Sox walk off with the majority of honors, each team placing four players. Shaw Bertram placed two on the all-star aggregation and Med ford one. Players were selected principally on their of re in I ve strength, although de fensive ability was taken Into con sideration also. Value to their re spective teams, hustle and, baseball smartness were also main points In the final choices. Careful In Choice. Nininger saw every team In action several times, while Hulen had first hand Information via the playing route and coupled with suggestions made by different team members, the selections were made after careful consideration. Probably the hardest choice to make wna at second base, where Ber nadou, Ewauna and Rlaberg, Shaw Bertram, stood head and shoulders above all other key stone guardians. If Rlnberg, tha former Chicago White Sox plnyer, had aeen action In more games, he would have been the one picked, aa he still flashes near major league form. However, Bernadou played the full schedule In bang-up style, so was selected In place of Rls berg, Another tough question was at first base. Haley nosed out Herman Wake man, Shaw Bertram, due to his higher batting average and consecutive hit ting streak which extended through 13 games. They were the class of the league by far at the Initial sack. Ogle Choice At. Short. For shortstop, Clarence Ogle's near est competitor was Wheeler, Ewauna. Both were great fielders, but Ogle got the call on his better hit tin. At third base, Cogan, Siaw Bertram holds sway because he slapped the ball more often than McCarthy, Grants Pass. They were both consist, ently brilliant defensively. In the outfield, Paul Hoffard, Med ford slugger was ' the class of the league. He was chosen for the middle spot with no argument. Shlpman, Shaw Bertram center fielder, was nhtfted to right, and Putnam, Ewauna, who saw" some action at third base, wns nut in left field, his regular posi tion, because of hi tremendous bat ting strength. Other good outfielders were Snntee, Grant Pass, Swanson, Medford and Martin, Ewauna. Buck or the plate, there was only one player to choose. His big bat roaring continually, bis smart work pulling his team out of hole after bole; Al Droulette, Orante Pass, and league leading hitter, was put in the catching spot automatically. Blanas, Ewauna, and Joy, Medford, were also fine receivers. Two Hurler Named. Two pitcher were selected, Nelson, Orante Pass, and Carlstrom, Ewauna. Nelson won 9 and lost 2 to hurl Orante Pass to the title, while Carl strom was known the league over as the smartest In the circuit. He won 6 and lost 0 and pitched Ewauna from the cellar to second place In the closing weeks of the season. Also, there was absolutely no argu ment on the position of manager. There was only one, Kenneth Williams of Grants Pas and former St. Louis Brown player. The all-star team would have a tre mendous wallop at bat. Their com bined batting average, not counting the pitcher, would be a healthy .362. They would be strong defensively and would have two of the best bush league pitchers In the state to choose from. Also, they would have a very, very smart manager on the bench to direct them and If need be, go In and pinch hit, although he would probably never have to. Without doubt, the all-star South ern Oregon league team would be a great bush league club and would be plenty tough to beat. OF ATLANTA, Aug. 9. (JF) That fam ous old Oriole, Wllbert Robinson, Is dead. Death came Just as Uncle Robby, one of baseball' greatest figure. wished It quickly and with little pain. He succumbed to a hemorrhage of the brain last night at 10:30 o'clock and his last words were about the Atlanta baseball club, of which he was president. Robinson was 70 years old. HI span of life saw him as catcher and captain of the Baltimore Orioles; saw him win two pennants at Brook lyn In the National league, and finally saw him worry himself literally alck about his club here. For the last three days Robinson had felt badly. His Crackers were tn a alurnp after playing good ball nearly all season. He fell suddenly while emerging from his bath Just before dinner yesterday evening, and broke his arm. He was taken to a hospital. At the hospital It was discovered he was suffering from a hemorrhage of the brain. 4 Scores Yesterday Coast League. San Francisco 3. Los Angeles 0. Missions 10, Hollywood 8. Sacramento 7, Seattle t.
