PAGE RTX irEDFOTtD' MATE TRTBTJKE, MEDFOHTT, OEEGON, FEIDAJ, JULY 13, 1934. Siamese Twins Enter Another Fight This Time the Girls Battle for Husbands and Babies Resolutions to Secretary of Labor Asks Full Powers Be Invoked to Force Fac Hons Arbitrate Difficulty The Rogue River Valley TraHlo b delation, at lti meeting yesterday, adopted a resolution requesting the department of labor to Immediately Invoke Ha full powers to force Mttlement of the longshoremen's trlke by compulsory arbitration.' The resolution, a copy of which was aent to Secretary of t,nor Perkins, in Washington, and Assistant Secre tary Edward P. McOrady, now In San Francisco, reads as follows: "Whereas, the general publlo has been suffering since May on account of the longshoremen's strike, which has closed all Pacific coast ports, and which Is still In effect; and, "Whereas, this tie-up has resulted In heavy losses to business men, workers, and farmers; and, "Whereas, production of all kinds, both of raw and processed materials, has been seriously curtailed by this prolonged tie-up; and. "Whereas, agricultural crops of va rious kinds are now reaching matur ity and must be moved by water to export markets and to the eastern seaboard; therofore, be It "Resolved, that the department of labor Immediately lnvoko Its full pow ers to force a settlement of the long shoremen's strike by compulsory ar bitration, and that both employers and employes be required to uncon ditionally accept the terms of such arbitration; "That the Rogue River Valley Traf flo association bitterly condemns the suggested general sympathetic strike as opposed to the common Interests of the grat majority of the people of the Paclfto slope, who are not Im plicated In the issues Involved in the longshoremen's strike, but groups are being made to suffer because two relatively small groups are not will ing ao make a real effort to reach an agreement; and "That because continuance of this longshoremen's strike Is a serious ob stacle to national recovery and will seriously Impair many federal loans made to fruit growers, wheat growers, stccUmcn and farmers generally If. orops and produce cannot be moved In season, It Is of paramount Impor tance that the tie-up be brought to an end at once," & NOW FEDERALIZED Southern Oregon Building and Ioan association today received a telegram from Washington, D, 0., stating that a federal savings and loan charter bad been mailed to the local office and, according to R. F, Kyle, secretary-manager of the organization bare, the local association will be known as the First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Medford. The telegram from the capital was received In response to a request sent from the building and loan associa tion, asking for the charter for real state financing at this time, Mr. Kyle said today that through the granting of this charter, funds not only for real estate but remodel ing and new construction will be available. These loans will be spon sored and supervised by the United States government and are particu larly timely, since the announcement of the federal home building program last week. The following explanation of the new federal rating has been made: A federal savings and loan associa tion Is a privately managed, mutual thrift Institution which Is organlrl and directed by responsible local business men and owned by all of Its shareholders. Money Is Invested In Its shsres by many people, In large and small sums. That money Is loaned by the association to local home owners, secured by sound first mortgages on their homes. Loans by a federal savings and loan assocatlon must be made mainly on homes located within BO miles of the association's office, and owned by people of good credit standing and ability to meet their loan obliga tions. Such loans must be conserva tive In amount, and must be paid off by monthly Installments. The term of payment must extend over a period of not leas than five years nor mare than ao years, at the end of which time the loan has grad ually been repaid. This form of loan has never been surpassed In safoty for the lender, and In Its economy - and soundness for the home owner. Before any federal snvlngs and loan assocattton Is chartered careful In vestigation la made as to the charac ter and responsibility of Its proposed management. Cat Leaps From Plane After Nap ROANOKE, Va, (UP) Even a cat has her worries. A tabby, mascot at th. airport, "committed suicide" rocently by Jumping out of a flying machine. The feline was In the habit of sleeping In the planea while they were on the ground. But recently she forgot to Jump out of ths ship be fore the pilot took off. When the pilot was a thousand fret In the air, the cat Jumped. By RADEB WINOET NEW YORK. (P) The Hilton 81. amese twins are always battling opposition. Right now they want husbands snd babies, but ths city of New York Is Inclined to say "no." Their lives have always been that way, they aay, with someone eternal. ly objecting to things they want to do. Violet, who Is on the right side of the combination, Joined at the hips, wants to marry Maurice L. Lambert, 29, a musician, but a marriage license was refused In New York City and Newark, N. J. Now they have decided to battle In the courts for the right of marrlago and mothorhood. Has Two Sweethearts. Daisy la extremely Interested In the outcome. She has a sweetheart In New York and one In England. The one In England Is a pugilist, but "f haven't seen him for more than six months and don't know how I'll feel about him when I see him again," she says. Meanwhile, an unidentified New York boy, also a musician, whispers sweet nothings. They say they battled in Omaha tor the right to ride on one railroad ticket. They won there, they say. and then the airlines In California tried unsuccessfully to make them buy two tickets. On steamships, how ever, they must buy two ticket be cause they eat twice as much as one person. Full of Excitement. The twins have had an exciting 2 years of life. They were norn in England. They never knew their par ents and were given to the care of an English nurcsmald. When she died they were taken Into the home o: Mr. and Mrs. Myer Myers, In Auy trails, and learned to regard them as their parents. They have traveled widely in side shows and vaudeville. As the girls were growing Into wom anhood, Myers built a magnificent home like a Chinese pagoda In San Antonio, Texas. Furnishings import ed from the Orient cost many thou sands, and the glrle were happy. One day In late 1030 they found a acranbook. yellowing with age. On the first page was an English news paper clipping showing the Prince of Wales bending over the crib of Si amese twins. They hurriedly thumb ed through the other clippings they never had seen before as the realiza tion dawned that they were not the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Myere. They hid the book In horror and said nothing. Several days later they fled to a hotel. When their absence was discovered. tney left for an apartment In a dis tant suburb. Through an attorney they sued their foster parents for an accounting of their wealth and de manded freedom. Win Wealth. They gloried In their new surround ings. Every morning they served tea in their apartment for friends their own tea party and their own friends. The Texas district court appointed a receiver, and after litigation they recolved nearly (100,000 in cash and socurltlos. .The girls left alone on a vaudeville tour which carried them to England where they added to their wealth. In New York they live In the grand manner In a large apartment over looking Central Park.
