A. Newland of this city la state vice-president, and has been taking an active part In preparing for the delegates who will be guests here the end of the week. Mrs. Hi la M. Loree of Bend, atate president of the auxiliary, arrived in Med ford today, and will be the house guest of Mrs. Newland. Word has also been received In Medford that Mrs. Ore lie Ruth Mast:e of Spokane, vice-president of the na tional association, plans to attend the sessions here. Members of the committees, for the auxiliary convention are Mrs. Bert Freeman, Mrs. Ray Clary and Mrs. Lester Lawrentz. Mrs. R. E. Swan will conduct the registration at the Hotel Medford, and Mrs. Q. O. Sand en will be program chairman. The state organization of the Na tional Association of Letter Carriers 'will also be held In Medford on Sat urday. Mrs. Hamilton Honorecl At Shower Wednesday m honor of Mrs. Moore Hamilton, Miss Edna Elfert was hostess at a surprise shower given at her home, 1013 East Main street, on Wednesday evening. Many lovely gifts were pre sented Mrs. Hamilton, upon her ar rival, by Mrs. E. N. Eldrldge, who as sisted her sister at entertaining. Miss Alta Lindsey was awarded the prize at the close of the 'evening's , entertainment, after which refresh ments were served. Those present for the evening were: Mrs. Hamilton, Miss Annette Heck man of HUo, Hawaii, who Is a guest here: Ml&s Barbara Wall, Mrs. E. C. Ferguson, Miss Alta Lindsey, Miss Lois LIndsey, Miss Margaret Hensley, Mrs. Myrtle Blakeley. Miss Irva Fewell, Mrs. Eldrldge and Miss Elfert. Pent tie Misses Visit Thompsons The Misses Helen Brekke and Dor othy Llmback of Seattle arrived here this week to spend part of their vaca tion in southern Oregon. They are guests of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Thomp son at their summer home on trw Rogue river. Thursday they plan to visit Diamond and Crater lakes, and the end of the week will continue south to San Francisco. Epworth Leaguer Conduct Services Thirty-two members of the Epworth League society of the First Methodist church enoyed a picnic supper at the fish hatchery near Butte Falls, Tues day evening, after which the group continued to the Civilian Conserva tion corps camp at South Fork of Rogue river, where they conducted special services. The girls' trio sang two numbers and the boys' quartet also sang. Rev erend Joseph Knotts, pastor of the local M. E. church, gave an Inter esting address, using as his subect, "You Can't Keep a Good Man Down." John Koppen read the scripture les son, and for the musical numbers and singing, .Miss Constance Moore was pianist. Accompanying the young people were Mrs. Florence GlUlnga, Mrs. Lu cre tl a Whlllock, Mrs. Mary Poffen barger, George Iverson and Reverend Knotts. Central Point Ladles Attend Meeting Here CENTRAL POINT By Invitation of Medford Woman's Relief Corps, a group of the Central Point corps ladies met with them In the Armory on Thursday afternoon. Following their regular business session. President Mrs. Ethel Weed, who was sent as a delegate to the ' state convention at Astoria, gave An Interesting report of each day's ses sion. Officers for the department of Oregon were elected and southern Oregon groups are pleased to know that Mrs. Weed was elected to the office of Junior vice-president. Refreshments were served at the close of the meeting. The Central Point group in attend ance Included: Mesdamea Rose Her manson, O. M. Mlnnlck, Iva Copln ger, Betty Potter, Mary Richardson, Eva Smith, Emma Oleason and MatUe Smith. Picnic Party At Peter Pan Mr. and Mrs. Claude Thompson entertained a group of friends at a picnic dinner and party Tuesday evening at their summer home on Rogue river. Guests Included Miss Helen Brekke and Miss Dorothy Llmbach of Seattle, Paul Luy, Mr. and Mrs. Arnel Butler, Miss Margaret Hensley. Mr. and Mrs. Moore Hamilton and Ernest Rostel. Mrs. Kabele's Sister Ii Guest In Medford Mrs. Dorothy Reid of Redondo Beach, Cal., Is a guest of her sister, Mrs. George P. Kabele, at her home, 518 West Fourth street. Fidelity Circle Announces Picnic The annual picnic of Fidelity circle of the First Methodist church will be held Tuesday, July 17, at the Jackson Hot Springs, it was an nounced today. Mrs. O. V. Myers and Mrs. E. O. Koppen are in charge of transportation. Each mmber Is re quested to come prepared to present some number on the entertainment program. Miss Kathryn Orme wu entertained with a swimming party Tuesday evening at Jackson Hot Springs, followed by a waffle supper at the home of Miss Beulah Gore, where Miss Orme has been a guest for the past ten days. (AP) Los Angeles looked for continued hot weather today after experiencing tl second warmest day of the year yes terday when the mercury touched 02 degrees. The peak of 95 was registered last May 10. Yesterday's mark was equaled March 10. Weather bureau records showed that yesterday was the hot test July 11 in 48 years. HE SPOKANE, Wash., July ia.(AP) Senator C. C. Dill, Democrat and Washington's senior senator, today announced his retirement from poll tics. Only "some pressing Issue in con gress affecting this state that de manded the help that only a senator of experience and prestige could give" would Induce him to run for office again, he said.
