Fall today In the aecond game of
a double header. The game la sched
uled to start at 3 o'clock.
The Medford Legion Juniors will
clash with the Proapect nine In the
preliminary atartlng at 1 o'clock. The
Ewauna-Rogue game will be a regu
larly acheduled Southern Oregon
league battle.
With a rants Fasa leading the pen
nant chase by a full two-game mar
gin over Medford and with but me
remaining to be played, the game
with Ewauna today takes on a cru
cial aspect. In case Medford loses,
the fast-stepping Merchants will be
praotlcally In. However, If the Rogues
can defeat Ewauna, they will -at least
keep pace with Grants Pass, which
tangles with Shaw-Bertram at Klam
ath Falls,
Bill Sargent, the change-of-pace
xpert from Shreveport In the Dixie
league, will start on the mound for
Halaht'a crew today, while Billy Cal

Washington, will be behind the bat.
Calvert. In the opinion of weu
known baseball experts like Swede
Klaberg, Ray Eubanks and Court
Hall, has the brightest future oi
any southern Oregon player In many
years.
If Medford la to win today's game,
BUI Sargent will have to put the
pressure on three or the nest me
ters In 'the olrcult.' In Haley, big
Ewauna first baseman, the Klamath
club boasts one of the hardest hit
tors to be seen In action on local
diamonds. He has an average of
close to .400 and has hit In every
league game this year to be the lone
player with that record.
Wheeler, shortstop, and Qlen Put'
nam, Paolflo university star, are also
heavy stickers,
In Blanas, catcher, and Carlstrom,
pltoher,, Ewauna haa a pair who have
seen action on Pacific Coast league
fields. Blanaa was aent to Klamath
Falls by the San Francisco Missions
for more seasoning and la the most
fiery receiver, by far, In the league.
Carlstrom had an extended tryout
with Sacramento this spring.
To match Ewauna's heavy hitting
array, Medford will present Paul Hof
fard, Dean Joy and Billy Calvert who,
by the way, takes a cut that will
some day make a Coast league acout
mile broadly. Those three are the
Rogue heavy hitters.
For most of the season It has been,
as Hoffard goes, so goes the Rogues
and If the big boy la on today, Med
ford fana should see some real slug

' EUGENE, Ore., July T. (Jf) The
great annual football war between
University of Oregon and Oregon
State college will be fought In Port
land again this year.
A ruling of the attorney general
has accomplished what some college
and university alumni of Portland
could not.
Cramped finances resulting from
the attorney general's ruling that
payment of student body fees Is op
tional and not compulsory necessi
tated the change. Graduate Manager
Hugh Roason at the University of
Oregon announced last night.
Roason estimated the student fee
ruling will result in loss of some
$9000 next school year. Shifting the
annual game to Portland should net
10,000 more than If It remained here
or In Corvallls.
Last year when University of Ore
gon and Oregon State college battled
for the coast championship in Port
land 33,000 persons witnessed the
gruelling, spectacular game. Each
school profited 114.000.
Besides the new optional payment
ruling, the state board of higher edu
