NEW YORK, July fl-(AP) The final return on the Literary Dlgett't poll of public opinion on President Roosevelt 'a acta and policies, on the whole, show today that three out of every five persona approve. Of the poll taken In 4B states, Ver mont was alone In registering dis approval. This opinion was held by 03 per cent of those balloting. The total number of votes cast was 1,772, 163, divided between 1.083,763 for the general policies of the new deal and 688,411 against them. Popularity Grows On a ratio basis, the magazine found that Presldetn Roosevelt's pop found that President Roosevelt's pop lar vote of 103a by 8.83 per cent. Compared to their balloting In 1033, 460,338 of the poll voters Indi cated they had changed their minds about the president since the elec tion. An analysis of the switching showed an average gain for the presi dent In the 48 states of 5.30 per cent. The same analysis by the Literary Digest Indicated that Mr, Roosevelt had Incurred net losses of support among the voters In the poll In 30 states and net gains In the other 38 states. The larger losses were tal lied In the southern and agricultural sections, while the larger gains were registered In New England and east ern Industrial states and the Pacific coast. . California Enthuses The greatest switch from Roose velt was shown In South Carolina, with California showing the greatest swing, over 14 per cent, to him. In six special polls conducted among bankers, the clergy, business men, educators, lawyers and physl slclans, all groups voted In favor of the new deal with the exception of the bankers. The bankers voted 13,793 to 12,638 against the general acts and policies of the president. In the other groups the percent age In favor of the new deal were: Clergy, 64 per cent; business men, 68 per cent; educators, 67 per cent; law-; yen, 63 per cent; and physicians, 60 per cent. The special poll conducted among undergraduates of 17 colleges and i universities gave a majority of 04 per 1 cent to the new deal. In 1032 Mr. Hoover carried 13 of the same uni versities.
