All of the grange members In the county have been Invited by the Chamber of Commerce, and plans are being made for an extensive program - of celebration. It Is expected that Joe Dunne, Re publican candidate for governor, will be present, and will deliver the speech of the day. Important grange of- ' ficials from California have been In vited, and Edwin Taylor, master of the ApplegaU grange, will talk. There will be a plonlo In the park, food concessions, old-time and modem dancing, and other diversions. A children's track meet will be arranged. The visiting grangers will be enter tained at Twin Plunges by some sort of athletic program, and It Is possible that there will be a bathing beauty contest, Spider mites have made their ap pearance In pear trees during the past few days and general leaf Injury has been observed In several different orchards. Growers are advised by L. P. Wilcox, county agent, and L. G. Centner of the southern Oregon Ex periment station, to be on the wntch from now on and when trees first show signs of leaf damage to apply control measures Immediately, The mites work on the under sides of the leaves, causing loaves to turn brown and black and later to fall orr. Such defoliation Is harmful not only to the fruit now present, but also tlm formation of fruit buds repre senting next year's crop. The D'AnJou and Base varieties will probably show injured leaves first, bo watch these trees closely from now on. Recommended control Is aa follows; On pears use medium summer oil emulsion at the rate of gallons to the 100 gallons of water. On apples use Mi gallons of light summer oil emulsion to the 100 gallons of water. Successful control depends great deal upon the application. Spray thor oughly the undersides of all leaves, espectnlly those In toward the center of the tree. Fall From Tree Fatal. CENTRAL! A, Wash., June 14.
