WAR IS BUSINESS
BARIUM TELLS
G.
GRANTS PASS, June 13. (Spl.)
Speaking before an audience com
posed of representatives of practical
ly all ex-service organisations of
Grants Pass at the Legion hall Mon
dsy evening. Rev. E. 8. Bartlam, rec
tor of the Medford Episcopal church,
laid bars what he said were the
oause, of war. .
Making direct statements, reciting
undisputed Instance,, Reverend Bart
lam stated that "war la a business."
"Th laat war, th world conflict,
could and would hav ended two
years sooner had It not been for th
agreement of th maker of muni
tions and their allied Interlocking In
terests," charged the speaker. Con
tinuing, he gave the real reason for
th present year-old conflict In th
Oran Chaco region of 3outh America
what he said was a business conflict
over the world's greatest unexplored
oil fields.
He told In forceful terms of many
additional Instances of prolongation
or actual Instigation of ware by large
corporations, naming th executives
of many organisations known world
wide. "On th other hand, he said, "ther
er time when a man feel, a If he
must fight; Take kidnaping and
other of th rackets. Any man would
gladly make war If It would do any
good.
"Or, h continued, "If on leave,
out the question of humanity, were
even private Individuals th gainer,
then war might be more excusable,
but th fact remain, that war 1 a
business, a mighty big business, and
even government are swayed for th
money that results."
The answer 1 apparent, continued
th speaker, that the making of mu
nition, must be removed from th
control of big buain,, and vested
In the various national government
and these In turn restricted to pro
duction for their own use, only.
