Knotta. of the First Methodist church, returned last night from Salem, where he attended the consmencement exer cises of the Willamette university. His son, Rosa, who was graduated, re turned to Medford with his father and will apend the summer here. . Ho Crater Lake Dr. F. A. McGrud er. Mary McGruder and Margaret Mc Gruder, of Corvallls, and Mrs. B. F. Welch of Baltimore, arrived In this city this morning on the train and will spend the day visiting at Crater lake before preceding south to sail east through the Panama canal. Lightning Strikes A report at the forest service office thla morning shows that the lightning of yester day's thunderstorm struck in the for est near Imnaha ranger station, which is In the Prospect region. Only a small fire resulted, and Is the only fire yet reported. Moving Starts Alarm When a heavy safe was moved Into an office on the second floor of the First National bank building laat night, an electrical cont actwas made by the Jarring which atarted the bank burglar alarm. It rang for some time, start ing about 7:15, before an electrician was able to break the connection. . Plans Trip East Miss Sara Van Meter, principal at the Roosevelt school, will leave In the near future for the east to attend the wedding of her niece, Miss Lillian Sherrard, who Is superintendent of schools at Chero kee, Iowa. Miss Van Meter will atip at San Francisco, and at the World's Fair In Chicago. Barks into Car An accident was reported at the city police station thla morning Involving Mrs. E. O. Kerns, of Klamath Falls, whose auto struck the fender of a machine owned by Louis Jennings, as Mrs. Kerns was backing out of a driveway. The Jen nings oar was parked In front of 333 South Riverside. Mary Ashpule and Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Ashpole, left Sunday for their homes. LYNCHING FEARED 8USANVILLE, Cl June 19. (AP) A coroner'a Jury today returned a verdict of "murder by partlea un known" following an inquest into the deatha of five persons slain by an apparently crazed knife killer here Sunday night. Meanwhile, sherlff'a deputies main tained a strict guard at the Lassen county Jail while rumors persisted that members of the Susanvllle Ital ian colony were considering a lynch ing attempt against Peter Alosl. lum ber mill foreman, suspected of the wholesale slaylngs. Alosl was arrested shortly after the mutilated bodlea of joe Fazio, a gro cer, hla wife and their grown daugh ter and son and a neighbor woman were found elashed by knife wounds. District Attorney Orover Julian ex pected to file a murder complaint against Alosl In a "day or two." The 45-year-old mill worker, who has steadfastly maintained hla lnnonc ence, was removed this morning to a basement of the county Jail as a further precaution against possible mob violence. The plain tiff won the suit and the opinion by Justice J. o. Bailey upheld htm In an appeal taken by Curl. The court, In an oral opinion, de nied the petition for rehearing In the $20,000 damage case won by Miss Mil dred Schamonl against Dr. Harry Semler, Portland dentist, on charges or malpractice. The case was started upon the allegation that Mlsa Mil dred Schamonl suffered Impairment of neaitn when the dentist, through carelessness, allowed one of the ex tracted teeth to go down her throat and It lodged in her lung. Marie, smallest of the quintuplets, was unchanged at one pound twelve ounces. The quintuplets now are being fed a total of two and one-half ounces or human milk every two hours. LONDON, Jun 12. (AP) The Canadian press ' learned today that the expansion of the British air force announced officially some time ago contemplated the addition of 60 squadrons totaling roughly 600 air planes.
