Engineer Here M. R. Lewis, Irriga tion engineer from the Bureau of Ag ricultural Engineers at Corral lis, ar rived on the train this morning for a few days here on business in con nection with the Southern Oregon ex perimental station. Madison at Grants Pass, when he pleaded guilty to operating a truck as a special car rier, without public utilities permit. Democrats Organize Democratic precinct committee members of Ash land met Monday evening at the LI th is hotel, and Hal McNalr was elected chairman of the committee. Larceny Charge Kerby Korneye, 19, of Ohio, was arrested yesterday by city police on a grand larceny charge for the theft of. golf clubs, a golf bag and shoes, all of which was valued at $69, from a cor belonging to Ralpn Woodford. TO JOIN OLD TIMERS IN DIAMOND JUBILEE The Civilian Conservation Corps, most modern of the pioneers, will join with the old-tlmera next week In celebrating Oregon's Diamond Jubilee In Medford and Jacksonville. The work of the corps In the for ests and parks of Oregon will be demonstrated by more than 100 members carrying the tools of their various forest trades In the giant Industrial parade Friday, June 8. All types of work projects being carried on by the CCC will be shown as the big company of men march along the route of the parade. The Lewis and Clark expedition, the great exploration party which opened up the western country short ly after the Louisiana purchase, will be portrayed by CCO men costumed as soldiers, frontiersmen and guides. Even the role of Captain Clark's colored body servant will be portray ed. A giant, good natured colored boy from Illinois having offered to play the part. Sacajewea. the Indian girl who guided the expedition, will be portrayed by a young Indian girl who will be here with the Indian village during the week. The roles of Lewis and Clark and other out standing members of the party will be taken by members of the CCC. along with those of the other 46 men on the party. ON JUBILEE PROGRAM Committees are working hard for the success of Education and Ash land day In Ashland next Tuesday. June 5, when a complete program Is being prepared In that etty. (AP) Two men died today In the flaming wreckage of an airplane which fell In a woods west of Sprlngport, a town In the northern part of Henry county. Night The only spring dance floor In southern Oregon will be one of the many featurea of the new Oasla Cabaret, located 11 mllee north of Medford on the Crater Lake high way, which opens Saturday night, according to Jack Grove, floor man ager. The dancing apace la held up by twenty-eight heavy aprings and covered with cushioned flooring. The big feature of the new cab aret will be Al Stewart and hla Eleven Nlte Owls, who will play all evening. A special stage has been built for the orchestra. There will be a two acre parking space. Robert Ford, state prison inmate, sentenced from thia county in Nov ember 1039, to 15 years for assault and robbery, yesterday had his sen tence commuted to ten years, by Governor Meier. Ford, with Gene Hurd, held up and robbed a man by the name of Quchea on North Riverside, taking 145, It was claimed by Ouches. Ford plead guilty. Hurd was arrested a year later In Nevada, and returned here. He also plead guilty and was sentenced to ten years In state prison. Both were transients. The commutation of Ford's aen tence makes him eligible for parole, In a few months, and gives him the same sentence to serve as his part ner in crime. Rooms Needed For Jubilee Visitors Medford and Jackson county resi dents having extra rooms during next week are urged to get in touch with Jubilee headquarters aa early aa possible. In view of the thousands of people expected here during the week the Jubilee housing commit tee is making every effort to locate sufficient housing accommodations. However, the cooperation of all resi dents Is necessary to assure the success of this project. Medford and southern Oregon resi dents are reminded to make early purchases of tickets for the pageant, "Oyer-Un-Gon" and Norman Cowan's famous roundup. The pageant will be presented Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights at the fairgrounds, where rehearsals have been in pro gress for sometime past. The round up will be presented Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday aft emoona, followed by a special show Saturday night.
