Martha Luke Tues day afternoon. In the absence of the president, Mrs. Albert, Mrs. I. N. Mo Col him presided. Mra. D. H. Reming ton had charge of the program. Mrs. Geo. Oliver gave the devotions, Mrs. A. R. Clement presented the current events, Mre. Baker spoke of the peo ples of south America. Mrs. Luke told of the deplorable condition of the children of the 'fruit emigrants going up and down our Pacific coast: two and a half months Is the aver age time these children are In achool during the year. Loyal Women's Class to Meet ' The Loyal Women's Bible class of the Christian church assembled In the church recreational hall Tuesday afternoon for their regular business and social meeting. The devotional period was In charge of Mrs. Eva Lough, who took as her subject Mat hew 18: verses 31 33. also the 17th chapter. After a song service and prayer a short busi ness session waa held. Following this a social hour was enjoyed and a short program. Readings - by Mrs. Lucy Rusk, "Wanted, a Preacher." and Mrs. Fidelia Woods, "His Last Sermon," were given. Carpenter Is ex pected home this coming Friday from New York, to which city she ac companied her mother, Mrs. J. a. Blue, from California. Mrs. Blue sail ed May 10 for a tour of Europe. " Miss Heck man Plans To Spend Rummer Here Friends In the valley of Miss An nette Heckman of HUo, Hawaii, will be Interested In learning that she will spend the summer In Medford with Dr. and Mrs. W. H. Heckman in Corning court. Miss Heckman plans to sail on the President Wilson on June 30 from Honolulu, arriving in San Francisco June 35. She will con tinue to Medford June 37. After the bride's bouquet waa thrown out Into the audience, the children escorted their mothers to the dining room where refreshments were served. As a close, the boys in vited their mothers to Join them in a Virginia reel. A song to mother by the boys and one by the girls pre ceded the departure of the youthful escorts with their happy guests of the evening. I C4 III JW I P. E. O. President Convention Guest Miss Mabel D. Doad Miss Mabel D. Doud of Aurora, 111., supreme president of the P. E. O, sisterhood, with Mrs. Veda Jones of Portland, supreme treasurer, will ar rive in Medford at 8:16 tomorrow morning with some fifty or more delegates from the 18 chapters In Portland and a like number from 33 chapters in other cities in the state for the twenty-third annual conven tion of Oregon chapters. Mrs. Arthur E. Welch of Portland, state president, arrived this morning and Is making her headquarters at the Medfdrd Hotel. Mrs. Welch will preside at all sessions of the convention In the Presbyterian church and will be the banquet speaker Tuesday evening. Miss Doud will address the conven tion on Tuesday morning and on Wednesday afternoon and Mrs. Jones will be the speaker. Miss Doud comes to Oregon direct from the New York state convention at Buffalo. She was the guest of Mrs. "Jones In Portland today. A feature of the convention of spe cial Interest to the membera will be the achool for officers Wednesday morning conducted by Mrs. Kather lne Alnsworth of Hood River, state treasurer, and Mrs. M. D. Wei lis of Portland, state corresponding secre tary. The model chapter meeting will be given Wednesday by chapter AG, Grants Pasa. Election of state offi cers for 1034-35 will come Wednesday morning and their Installation will close the convention. At the memorial hour tomorrow afternoon Mrs. C. A. Bprague of Salem, Junior past state president, will make the address and Mrs. Paul T. Shaw of Portland will conduct the service honoring the memory of seventeen former members of the sisterhood. Mrs. Bebb Hostess Student Luncheon Roberta Ward Bebb entertained t a luncheon, at the Hotel Medford, on I Saturday, the members of her "group i voice and diction class." This marked the completion of the course, a duplicate of tbe. one given at the Institute of Musical Art of Jullllard School of Music, Now York City. Those completing the course and enjoying the luncheon were : Lois Herman, La Murle Beck, Betty Fow ler, Margaret Ruth Bolton, Josephine Bullls, Ethel May Roblnett, Fred Beck and Harold Grove. f Marlins Hosts At Party Honoring Mr. Kelly Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Martin were hosts Friday night to a number of friends at an election party at their home, 708 Sherman. The evening waa spent telephoning and driving about the volley for returns, and was cli maxed by midnight supper, celebrat ing the birthday of Fred Kelly. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Wslter J. Olmscheld. Miss Olga Anderson, Mr, and Mrs. Edward Leach, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Stansbury, Fred Kelly and the hosts. Party Given for Miss Amy Elliott Before Trip East For the pleasure of Miss Amy El liott, who is leaving Medford with her father. Dr. B. R. Elliott, for a trip east, the Misses Betty Vllm and Virginia Llndley entertained last week at a bridge party. Prizes were awarded Mary Thomp son and Phyllis Phythian. Mrs. McReynolds Entertains for Daughters Mrs. Ward McReynolds entertained Friday night with a dinner party In honor of her daughter Roma. Ninth Grade of Junior High School Has Picnic The ninth grade of the Junior high school held a picnic at Jackson Hot Springs Friday afternoon under the supervision of Miss Delia Whlsenant, attended by 150 members of the clsss and eight faculty members: Miss Marjorle Kelly, Mrs. Gladya Condor, Miss Parker, Miss Whlsenant, Mr. Keesee. Walter Nitzel, Mr. Fitch, Ray Henderson. Swimming and luncheon were en Joyed, followed by a ball game. Mrs. Rhodes Honored At Birthday Dinner The lovely country home of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Rhodes on Beall Lane was the scene of a delightful birth day dinner on Tuesday, honoring Mrs. Frank Rhodes. Rosea and sweet peas decorated the rooms for the oc casion. Covers were arranged for 16 for turkey dinner, following which cards and music were enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes are here from Beyerly Hills, Cal., as guests of their son and daughter-in-law for the summer. They are both loud In their praise of the southern Oregon flora, although coming from a section where blossoms are abundant. Mrs. Grimes, Hostess To Church Women Central Point The women of the Federated churches held their party at the home of Mrs. Louis Grimes Thursday with, 38 present.
