Bank Is Painting The Medford Na. tlonal bank Is this week having some painting done as a part of the clean up campaign preceding the Diamond Jubilee. Go to Applegate John J. Seely and William D. Coffin, members of Camp Upper Rogue River, will go to Camp Applegate for duty, according to headquarters announcement. Everett of this city arrived on the Shasta this morning from Beverly Hills, Cal., where she has been the past two weeks. To Visit In Portland Miss Louise Brommer of this city left on the flhasta this morning for Portland, w'nre she will spend a week visiting with friends. Called to Hubbard O. J. McKee of Medford returned by train this morn ing from Hubbard, where he was re cently called by the death of his brother, Goes to Tiller First Lieutenant Edward H. LaSalle,'FA-Res., has been relieved rrom his assignment at Camp Steamboat, and has been ordered to duty at Camp Tiller. e Visitors Here Today Captain Harry S. Copper, commander of Camp South Fork of the Rogue, and Captain Glen P. Wallace, Applegate CCC camp com mander, were visitors at district head quarters this morning. To Visit Caves A party from the Portland chamber of commerce ar rived in southern Oregon on a special ear this morning, stopping at Grants Pass. From there they plan to visit the Oregon Caves. Edwards to steamboat Lieut. Grant R. Edwards, FA-Res., who has been on duty with company 966, at Camp Dog Lake, yesterday reported for duty at Camp Steamboat, In the Roeeburg section. CCC, Contract Surgeon William C. Bundrant will be on temporary duty at the camp. Dr. Bundrant will then proceed to Camp Wineglass In Crater Lake national park, where he will report as camp surgeon. e Bare for Movie Tourney Billy Oreen of the National Screen service and senior ehsmplon athlete of Ore gon, arrived In Medford by train this morning. He is here to compete In the Oregon Motion Picture Golf tour nament, May 16 and 16, but an nounces that his golf chsmplonshlp Is not at stake. Brings Back Limit C. O. Smith, principal of the senior high school, and manager of the Lake o' the Woods resort, brought back a limit of bass, eastern brook and allverilde trout, when he returned from a Sunday's trip to the resort. The bsss and east ern brook trout were caught from the boat landing, and Mr. Smith aays the sllveralde trout are biting freely. The catch is on dlsp'.iy at Al Plche'a. Prank of Rogue River underwent a major operation at the Community hospital this morning, and G. W Smith of Gold Hill underwent a major operation this afternoon. Recovering Ernest Frlberg, CCC worker who is In the Sacred Heart hospital, was today reported recover ing satisfactorily from a severe cold. George Naben of 898 South Oakdalc avenue, operated on Saturday, was getting along nicely today. ' Has Unusual Operation Patricia Marx, six-year-old daughter of Mr and Mra. H. A. Marx, was operated on this morning at the Sacred Heart hospital, for a throat ailment. The operation, performed by Dr. Lemery, wea pronounced successful this after noon by hospital attendanta. . Advertises Rose Festival Worth Caldwell, manager of the Portland Rose Festival, was a visitor In Med ford today, and extended a special Invitation to Medford and southern Oregon residents to attend the festi val in the Rose City, June 11 to 14, Inclusive. He stated that a large num ber of Portlanders plan to come here for the Jubilee. ROTARY'S DELEGATES An interesting, detailed report of the recent district conference of Rotary International in Tacoma was given at today's luncheon meeting of the Medford Rotary club by Glen Smith, president-elect of the club here, and Joe Marshall, aecretary. In the course of his report, Smith pointed out that the initial Rotary conference was held In Tacoma 20 years sgo. Tribute was paid to the Rotarlana of the Washington city for their splendid hospitality by the speaker, who also briefly discussed the procedure of the international Rotary board and the Important work the organisation Is accomplishing in Europe and the Orient in encourag ing friendlier relations between countrlea and avoiding open warfare. Joe Marshall also emphasized the spirit of hospitality and good-fellow-ahlp that prevailed at the Tacoma conference and briefly told of some of the sessions he attended as a Med ford Rotary club representative. H. H. Sanderson of Seattle and Ed Morrla of Eugene were visiting Rotar lana who enjoyed today's meeting. Club guests were Joe McMahon, for mer Medford traffic official, Emmett Nealon and Ralph Billings. A special program with Illustrated lecture has been planned for next week's Rotary Helen Twelvetrees has one of the featured roles In "All Men Are Ene mies," on the screen at the Craterian theater - today and tomorrow, with the "Purple Sage Riders" on the stage In person for all shows. "The Purple Sage Riders," an ag gregation of stars from radio and stage, are headed by the Lonesome Cowboy, whose voice and act are known from coast to coast. Two thousand ana nine typhoid Inoculations were given the men, 3,005 smallpox vaccinations, and 225 Inoculations against Rocky Mountain spotted fever. There were two deaths In the district the past year, one young man receiving fatal injuries from a falling tree, and the other died the result of carbuncles. The medical division spent 1 425.87 for hospital cae other than govern ment hospitals, and 91098.50 for only slclans other than government doc tors. Expenditures also Included 91. 428 50 for dentists, 9363 for nurses, 9247.00 for optical service and 993.33 for medicine purchased In open mar ket. Reserve Officers Used Camps when originally established were In charge of regular army men, who have since been replaced by re serve officers. Numerous changes In enrollment of the regular men have been necessitated by the ruling that a man can only serve five quarters. Authority In t(j camps divided, between the army and the forest ser vice, the latter being In charge of work outside the camp.
