Apple Thinning Starts Chaa. A.
Wing reports apple' thinning in full
swing in the Wing orchards, where a
crew of 30 men are at work. The
season Is a month early this year.
according to Mr. Wing, who says
thinning started last year on June
7, while this year the work began
on May 0.

Veterans Form League According
to announcement in the Ashland Tid
ings, a Veterans Voter league has been
formed for Jackson county. It was
organized at a recent meeting, of the
veterans of this section, held in the
Llthia city. Newman was . elected
chairman and Capt. O. L. Overmeyer
was named secretary. The next meet
ing of the Veterans' Voter league will
be held on Wednesday, May 8, In the
Armory, at 8 p. m and veterans of
! all wars have been asked to attend,

Mansfield arrived late last night from
the Pelican Bay Lumber company cut
over area, where he had spent several
days studying the reproduction of
timber and reporting on present tim
ber resources. Mansfield, assisted by
R. Munter, encountered rough wea
ther on the trip, reporting a two-Inch
snowfall.

Interested in beauty culture are in
vited to the meeting of the Girls
Community club to be held this even
ing at the Emma Cllne shop at 7:30
o'clock, at which time Mrs. Vera Mer
shon will address the group on care
of skin, hair and hands. The lecture

stock market displayed sagging ten
dencies today as yesterday's silver
enthusiasm appeared to have been of
only brief duration. The metal Issues
were especially soft and most of the
other groups recorded moderate
losses. The close was somewhat
heavy. Transfers approximated 1,025,
000 shares.
' There was hardly a flutter In the
equity division when It was announc
jed that Senator Ptttman had sub
! mltted a bill to establish and main
tain a metallic reserve of which 35
per cent would be silver.
