MEDFORD, OREGON. FRIDAY, 'APRIL 6, 1934. SALEM, Ore., April 6. Special Members of the Polk County Prop erty Tax Reduction league, of which A. R. Cadle of Dallas is president, are now conducting & personal con tact campaign in the Interest of the sales tax, Cadle said in a letter re ceived here today. "We are talking to the farmers," Cadle said, "in the hope that they may see the light and vote for a tax which will lighten the property bur den. Many of the farmers already have pledged themselves to the sales tax and have banished from consid eration a lot of hooey about the "slim trail to Wall street" and oth er prejudicial slogans advanced by the opposition," Plan Worthy of Trio! Cadle said a recent survey of Polk county showed a decided drift to ard the sales tax. "T.he farmers ap parently believe," Cadle continued, "that the sals tax cannot result in any great amount of harm and that it offers a great possibility for re lief. They further feel that the tax is only temporary and ia worthy of a fair trial." Cadle's letter also said that many farmers were beginning to take in ventory of the large number of per sons who do not pay any tax. "Many farmers, while not object ing to helping the schools, are of the opinion that they are carrying too much of the tax load," Cadle said. "These farmers believe that other persons, now tax free, should assume a part of the tax load," Candidates Back Tax Cadle declared that of the 13 Polk county candidates for office, from congress down to county commission er, only three are outspoken against the sales tax. "Prior to the primary election," Cadle continued, "members of our organization will have a. heart-to-heart talk with virtually all of the farmers who' have expressed them selves as unfavorable to the sales tax. We intend to carry on & vigor ous campaign and appeal to reason. We will not leave any sore spots, be lieving that every man has a right to his opinion."
