PAGE THREE Society and Clubs Edited by Eoa Nealon Hamilton Irish Operetta To Be Presented By Phoenix Grangers "The Wishing Well", a lilting Irish operetta, will be presented next Sat urday evening at the Phoenix Orange hall, tills Grange being the first In Jackson county to attempt presenta tion of an operetta. The Bcene of the musical production is laid In the Emerald Iele and the story concerns Itself with Lady Mary Donnell, who Is the last of an old. but Impoverished family. She lives with a small niece, Noreen, and her four servants, at the ancestral home of the Donnells, "Falls Park Manor." Because of her financial reverses, Lady Mary has been forced to place a mortgage on her estate. Such la the situation, when Noreen makes friends with a vagabond, whom she finds asleep In the garden. The plot de velops from that point. The cast for the Phoenix presenta tion includes: Terence Fltzpatrlck O'Grady. News- The delegation In attendance at the Daughters of the American Revo lution state conference which was held In Portland March 26 to 27, In clusive, have reported a most enthu siastic congregation. Much work has been accomplished by the 27 chap ters throughout the state. One of toe major projects was the copying and indexing of the census of 1850, which was under the direction of the state registrar and chairman of general research, which office was held by Mrs. B. G. Harding for the past two years and who has been honored with the office of first state vice-regent. Mrs. Russell William Magna, presi dent general of the national society, was honor guest throughout the con ference, and the main speaker at several sessions. Among other speak ers were Mrs. Sadie Orr Dunbar and Burt Brown Barker. On Sunday the memorial exercises were held for the departed members there being 19 throughout the state. Medford lost three devoted and loyal patriotic workers: Mrs. J. J. Steiger, Mrs. C. a. Harris and Mrs. Alice Applegate Sargent. Medford will be hostess to the Southern Oregon district conference some time during the summer, the district comprising Klamath Falls, Ashland, Roseburg, Grants Pass and Mrs. John Y. Richardson, retiring state regent, was endorsed for the position of vice-president general of the national society. The delegation from Crater Lake chapter, which will give a report of the convention at the next meeting on Aplrl 31, included Mesdamea B. G. Harding, M. M. Morris, Volney Dixon, H. F. W. Spllver and G. Q. D'Albinl. r Mistletoe Club To Meet Tuesday Mistletoe club will meet Tuesday evening, April 3, with Edith Beck at her home, 524 South Grape street. This will be a Polly Anna party. -Home und School Circle to Meet The Home and School circle of the Roosevelt school will meet at the school Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Auxiliary To Meet Sunday The meeting of the Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, sched uled for last Tuesday and later post poned, will be held at the armory Sunday (this) evening at 8 o'clock. Ceclle Hardle, state president of the Auxiliary, will be present and plans for the state convention to be held .here June 4 to 9, will be dis cussed. Royal Neighbors To Meet Tluirsdny Royal Neighbors will hold regular business meeting Thursday evening, K. of P. hall, at 7;30. All members are urged to be present. Girls Community Club Elects Orf leers On Wednesday evening forty girls, members of the Girls Community club met and formed a permanent or ganization. Miss Lola Hood was elected president, Miss Edith Olllver, vice-president, and Miss Sabrlna Thatcher, secretary. These officers will later announce the committees. The party held following the busi ness meeting waa a decided success. Assisted by some of the board mem bers, the girls put on several playlets in costume. Oregon, at an impressive ceremony Sunday, Mar. 25. at the St. Peters Evangelical Luth eran church. 10 Portland avenue, this city. The party entered the chapel to the music of the Lohengrin Wedding March, played by the groom's sister, Miss Anne Guetzlaff. Miss Dorothy Lee Baughman Bang the selection "Oh Proml.se Me," during the service, at which Rev. H. H. Young officiated, performing the double ring ceremony. The bride wore a gon of eggshell satin with yoke and sleeves of silk lace. Her net veil was caught In a cap edged with orange blossoms. which were worn by the groom's mother forty-one years ago. She car ried a bouquet of lilles-of-the-valley. white roses, and freesla, also the handkerchief carried by her mother 37 years ago. The bridesmaid, Miss Mary A. Mc Larnan, sister of the bride, wore on orchid taffeta gown with blue velvet sash, carrying a bouquet of orchid. sweetpeas and freesla. The groom was attended by his brother. E. C. Guetzlaff of Gold Hill, Oregon. . The flower girl, Beverly Young, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. H. H. Young, was dressed In pink crepe. Her sister, Elleene Young wore blue crepe, carrying the rings vn a satin pillow, decorated with the wroath worn by Miss McLarnan's mother on her wed ding day. A wedding dinner waa served for the Immediate relatives, at the home of Mrs. Anna Guetzlaff at Ashland. The bride was graduated from the Iowa State Teachers college at Cedar Falls, Iowa, and came to Talent, Ore gon in 1029. She has taught in tho Talent public school for the past five years. The groom formerly of Bassett, Iowa, attended Wartburg college at Clinton, Iowa. He has been In the west since 1924. He Is now operating Ted's Feed and Seed store in Ashland. Mr. and Mrs. Guetzlnff will make their home in Ashland following a trip south. Mrs. Hauser Is Honored By O. E. 5. Reamcs chapter No. 66, O. E. S., held one of the most interesting meetings of Its existence last Wed nesday evening In the Masonic hall. Plans for the American Legion Auxiliary's fourteenth national con vention to be held In Miami, Florida Oct. 22 to 20, have been started un der the direction of Mrs. Joseph Y. Cheney, general chairman of the 1934 national convention committee. Large committees of Florida auxiliary wom en will work throughout the summer perfecting arrangements for the en tertainment of thousands of auxiliary delegates and guesta who will come to the convention from every part of the country. Mrs. Cheney, former president of the Department of Florida and former national vice president, was appoint ed convention chairman by Mrs. Wil liam H. Bolster, Jr., of Philadelphia, Pa., national president. CofC Gets Ready For Its New Year The Medford Chamber of Com merce completed another fiscal year yesterday and the staff was working Into the night to complete reports. The primary balance will be counted April 7 and the new board will be announced April 14. The members, whose terms expire, are: W. S. Bolger. B. E. Harder, W. A. Gates, R. R. Reter, W, J. Warner, Al bert Burch, who was elected to com plete the unexpired term of A. P. Johnscn; and J. C. Carle. On April 20th the new board will meet to elect a president, vice-president, treasurer and manager.
