"We are calling upon all American employees to patriotically do their duty In assisting In a solution of our economic troubles, to support the President of the United States, pat ronlze business Institutions that are operating under the National Recov ery administration and collectively as sist those less fortunate, the unem ployed, In acts of kindness and deeds of charity. Constructive action Is of paramount Importance, due to the sinister Influence of radical foreign communistic agitators, who are seek ing with false promises to the unem ployed and unfortunate, to overthrow our government. "The American Employees' adminis tration further advocates the national establishment ol educational, voca tional, guidance agencies, schools of efficiency, rehabilitation and self-help Institutions, for those who must again enter industry and be rehabilitated; the scientific collection and distribu tion to the penniless, widows, chil dren and unemployed of millions of tons of vegetables, fruit and other products that are left to useless de cay." BEAUTY VIA VITAMINS Did you ever think that the text ure and attractive service of certain green foods has a lot to do with your appetite varia tions? Actually, this Ls true. Seeds, strings, liklai, careless j cutting, etc., are : all likely to de-1 tract from the i appeal to one's taste, and often ! turn really good food Into so much wasted ef fort. Then, there Is the matter of variety In service. If you serve the favorite dish of the family too often It soon becomes most unpopular. Also, serving two or three similar foods at the same or succeeding meals Is a grand way to kill vielr favor. Just today a young lady told me that Bhe disliked chicken tamale pie thoroughly be cause in her "house" at school they had been served it so regularly that she was sickened of It for life. Some thoughtless manager considered It a fine dish, no doubt, bus lacked for slght to save It from the evil results of over-production. Right here should be the opportune time to warn against too many so-called "creamed" dishes. It seems to me that we are almost "creamed" to 'death these days! Now that spring and vegeta bles are coming In, surely there will be no need for "creaming" them. Their freshness and fine texture are so much more enjoyable If cooked and served In their own Juices. In the way of variation we offer these suggestions: Special Baked Potatoes 1 potato for each serving. 1 strip of bacon for each serving. 2 tablespoons cooked spinach for each serving. Butter. IL I EUGENE, Ore., March 18. (AP) A new method of making charcoal, which works on the principle of both keeping your cake and eating It, was announced today at the University of Oregon. A stream of chipped wood Is fed Into a new type of rotating cylinder. Heat drives the gases out of the wood and these gases are burned to make the cylinder hot enough to carbon ize the wood. A little "starting' heat Is required, but most of the heat ls supplied by the wood chips which are turning into carbon. T,he process was In vented by O. P. Stafford, head, of the chemistry department. PORTLAND, Ore., March 16.
