Auto Plants Increasing Out put Daily Long Run Ex pected Trade and In dustry Volume Broadening DETROIT, Jan. 26. ) Reem ployment is riding on the wings of y revived demand In Detroit'! automo bile plants, and with production fig urea being stepped up almost dally, many thousands cf men are trans ferring from welfare lists or CWA payrolls to real Jobs. A few days ago. the estimated auto mobile production for January was 135,000 units. That has been ad ranoed to 160.000 unit and full pro duction will not be reached until Fobruary Is well advanced. There are now no.OOO men on the payroll at the Ford Motor Co. De- j troit plants, virtually doubling the ( employment figures of two months ago. In each of the 10 assembly plants over the country, there are between 1,500 and 2,000 men em ployed. Forty-three thousand men are work ing in the Chrysler plants, and the company expects by March to exceed Its 1933 peak of 48.000 men. Twenty two thousand men were working a year ago. The Chevrolet plants, scattered over j the country, have 51,000 men on the payrolls and production passed the 2,0O0-a-day mark on Wednesday. At the Graham Motors plant, pro duction Is Just getting under way. with 2.000 men on the payroll. Most spokesmen predict "a good long run." NEW YORK. Jan. 26. P) The up ward trend In trsde volume and broadening activity In Industry were resumed the past week, following some neettancy the middle of the month, Dun & Bradstreet reported In their weekly trade review today. "Virtually all of the reports re ceived this week, regardless of the section of the country,", asserted the review, "emphasized the strength which the upward trend now has at tained. "With the continued release of gov ernmental funds, collections have benefited, -and many accounts are be ginning to get straightened out for the first time In years. "After the unevenness which char acterized reports vn retail sales last week, buying has been resmued with more vigor. Since the first of the current month, sales he.ve been rising each week by a wider percentage above February, 1933. level, and In dications are promising for a con tinuance of this advance. "In wholesale markevn, buying now has reached the broadest proportions of the month, with orders Increasing dally, particularly for dry goods and hardware, which appear to be In thn lead, with sales running from 15 to 20 per cent larger than they were at this period a year ago." The federal reserve board stood be hind a statement that a four-mouth decline in industrial production was halted In December. A targe y variety of tasty cheese dishes were prepared and thoroufhly enjoyed by those present. After dinner Mrs. Mack gave an interesting talk on the value of both cott?e and American cheese as a food. The club will meet at Mrs. Reed Charley's February 7 to continue the sewing lessons.
