Here in Jackron and Josephine counties the work "will be directly In charge of Mrs. Mabel Mack and Mrs. Rita Calhoun, working under the di rection of Miss Claribel Nye, state director of extension work In Oregon. The survey has been approved as a federal civil works administration project and the field work Is being done by women who have been ap pointed from the re-employment rolls In the counties. Employment has thus been made available to those who need It while valuable informa tion la collected as to the present adequacy of farm homes and the needs and resources for Improvement, It is heartening for the men and women In farm homes to see the farmers are to be regarded again as consumers and employer. They have wanted new homes, or new rooms, or porches, or repairs, or furnaces, or electricity for too many years. They have had to budget their crop re turns with the utmost enre to pro vide for food and clothing and taxes and interest. Meteorological notes for December, compiled by W, J. Hutchison, IocaI meteorologist, show a month of prac tically continuous cloudiness. Light rains were frequent and there was considerable fogglness. Dally tempera tures were unusually mild for De cember and means were somewhat higher than average. Cloudiness predominated through out the month with an occasional breaking of the overcast buti without entirely clear aklfs on any day. Of the 31 days. 29 were recorded as to tally cloudy and the remaining 3 as partly cloudy. Morning fogs were fre quent and in many Instances fog re mained In the valley throughout the day. and occasionally through the nights. Aircraft schedules were Inter rupted for short interval during the more severe fo&ty weather condition The unseasonable mildness of tem peratures during the month Is Indi cated by the fact that both dally maximums and minimum averaged several degrees above the means of these temperatures based on the past 23 year of December record. A maxi mum high temperature of 50 degree occurred on the 13th and the lowest was recorded at 22 degrees on the 1st; a high minimum for December. The frequency of light rains Is evi denced by the number of days upon which precipitation was recorded There were 24 days with amount in cluding trsces, 16 of which show a fall of 0.01 Inch or more of preclpl tat ion. A maximum 24-hour ralnlall amounted to 0.60 Inches occurred on the 11th and lath. Traces of snow fall were recorded on the 15th, 18th and 17th. Although rainy weather w appar ently plentiful the daily total of moisture were small with a resulting subnormal monthly rainfall. A total of l.9 lnche accumulated in De cember, showing a deficiency of 1.19 Inches. The seasonal precipitation also show further deficiency; a total of 3.46 lnche which Is short of the nor mal by 3 09 Inches at the close of De cember. Station, Medford, Oregon, Decern ber, 1033. Max.
