Now is the time for planting shrub-1 An annual dramatics institute will

Mrs. A. r. Reames, former president t Jack30n and J"Phlne counties at
of the Medford Garden club, remind-ith Medford courthouse auditorium,
ed the public last night, outlining j J"marJr 8"U' inclusive, at 7:30 to 10
briefly the action which haa been P m Mabel C. Mack, home demon
taken In that direction, strntion spent, announced today.
The county has been particularly This project is made possible
fortunate in obatlnlng t,he advice through the co-operation of the Na
and services of the landscape depart- tlonal Recreational association, the
ment of Oregon State college under
the direction of Professor Peck.
Fred A. Cuthbert, a man univer
sally recognized for his success in
planting and landscaping public
grounds, came here at the request
of Mrs. Reames when she was presi
dent of the Garden club, and as
sisted in the selection of shrubbery
for the court house grounds. In
making the selection tne following
things were taken Into consideration:
climate, the natural surroundings of
trees and shrubs and mapping out
the grounds in detail.
Mr. Cuthbert co-operated with the
county court In establishing the un
derground sprinkling system, placing
the heads in relation to the pro
posed trees and shrubs.
The county court has expressed
the desire to preserve the result of
this work and to take advantage of
t.he opportunity that has been of
fered Jackson county to so beautify
the court house grounds, that they
may be a fitting adornment to the
building. The county court also feels
Justified In calling upon the citizens
to contribute liberally to the pur
chase of this shrubbery.
The plans for the planting, Mrs.
Reames stated yesterday, have been
carefully prepared by the architect
so that It is possible for civic groups
or Individuals to undertake to sup
ply separate portions of these shrubs
and trees and to aid In this work.
The architect has submitted a com
plete list and names for each section
of the planting. Estimates are avlnl
able so that groups or individuals
may ascertain the cost of the trees
or shrubs which they wish to fur
nish. ' '
The citizens generally will be In
terested In seeing this work done,
but they should realize, Mrs Reames
plonted out, that It cannot be done
without organization. The county
court has therefore asked the Med
ford Garden club to continue its ef
forts and secure thla shrubbery In
time for late fall and early spring
planting, which must begin soon.
Those Interested In aiding should
communicate with Mrs. T. W. Miles,
TJ. 8. department of agriculture and
president
club.
of the Medford Garden

tion of Jack Stuart Knapp of the
National Recreation association. Mr.

county, having conducted a similar

the county. The enrollment of the
school Is limited to 60 leaders. Forty

be two leaders representing each or
ganization enrolled. It Is desirable

women.
Boys and girls who are unemployed
at the present time and who are out
of school are also invited to attend
the institute. Any orgsniration in
terested In dramatics U asked to call
the home demonstration agent for
further details. There Is no charge
