Hatfield of Central Point and Paul Wright of Gold Hill. Smiths Return Mr. and Mrs. Char ley Smith have returned to Medford from spending the New Year's holi days in Klamath Falls. Miss Kiddle Returns Miss Mara Kiddle of the Crater Lake national park offices has returned to Medford from Portland where she has been spending the past few days. Miss Green Visits Here Miss May ' Green, who spent several days last week In Ashland, has returned to Medford, where he Is guest of her sister, Mrs. Chas. Stacy. Miss Keyes Transferred Miss Kath erlne Keyes arrived in this city Wed nesday, having been transferred fromj the Medford Cinderella shop to the Cinderella shop here. Complete Vacations State police officers In the Medford district who returned to their duties today fol lowing annual vacations were Mace Pewtherer of Grants Pass, Lieutenant A. G. Dunn and Rodney Roach of Medford. Dr. Van Nuts Here Walter L. Van Nuya of the department of Christian education for the Presbyterian church, arrived here today on the Oregonlan from Portland. Dr. Van Nuys will continue to Phoenix, where he will conduct some training classea. Visitors In Ashland Miss Alice Cromar of Medford visited over the week-end with Miss Ruth Porter. On Sunday evening Miss Ellza-beth Cro mar and Ernest Price of Medford were also visitors at the Porter home. Ashland Dally Tidings. Precipitation Reported Between the hours of 6 a- m. and ft p. m. on Wednesday, there was .17 of an Inch of moisture, while between ft p. m. Wednesday and 5 a. m. today there was .08 of an inch, according to the report of the federal weather bureau today. To Fly. North Bernie Hughes, who played on the West's football team in the Shrine benefit in San Fran cisco New Year's day, is In Medford visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Hughes. He plans to con tinue to Eugene by plane today with Harold Sander. Lees Return Home Dr. and Mrs. Robert E. Lee and family have re turned to Medford from Los Angeles, where they have been spending the past few weeks, while Dr. Lee took a special course of study. They. at tended the Tournament of Roses in Pasadena New Year's day before re turning home. Pictures Displayed An attractive display of local youth la drawing much attention to the Chamber of Commerce windows this week, where pictures taken by the Kennell Ellis studio are featured. The Juniors and seniors of the Medford high school are represented there, and friends and relatives have been flocking about the windows for several days, viewing the very fine likenesses obtained by the photographer. Owen of the Owen-Oregon company left last evening by train for Portland, on a business trip. Mtsi MrAllister Home Miss Mar guerite McAllister returned to Med ford on today's Shasta from Los An geles, where she was a guest over the holidays. She was unable to return home earlier In the week because of the severe storms and floods in the south. Installation Friday Installation of about 60 officers of the Medford, Grants Pass and Artisan lodges will be held at the Evergreen hall in Grants Pass Friday evening, accord ing to announcement made in that city yesterday. Several officers from Portland will take part In the Installa tion. Car Over Embankment Mrs. S. S Sunday and seven-year-old son, en route to Medford from Roseburg, suf fered but minor Injuries Wednesday when their car plunged over an em bankment as a result of a defective steering gear. They continued to Medford after being taken to Grants Pass by John Doug all of Wolf Creek. Fined in Court Charles E. Rose. 27. Medford, was fined. $35 and costs of 5.35 in Justice of the Peace H. D. Reed's court In Gold Hill Wednesday, following his arrest on charges of hunting on land of another without permission. Unable to pay the fine. Rose is being held In the Jackson county Jail. Richard Arlen In Rialto's Romance Richard Arlen, motion picture lead ing man, has Just completed another featured role in "Hell and High Water," a romantic drama of the San Diego waterfront. The picture, with Judith Allen In the leading feminine role opposite Arlen, comes tomorrow to the Rlalto theater. Other players featured are Charley Grapewln, Sir Guy Standing, William Frawley, Esther Mulr, Barton MacLane and the Japanese actor, Matsul. Written by Max Miller, author of "I Cover the Waterfront," "Hell and High Water" tells the dramatic story of Cap'n Jericho, the cock-sure com mander of a "one man navy" and Sally Drlgg, whose waterfront exist ence has taught her to hate all men. Not having much love for women himself. Jericho la thrown together with Sally. Knowing too much about life al ready, they are too selfish to care about love. But through their quar rels and fights, they force their way Into each other's arms and heart, turn their drab waterfront into a veri table seventh heaven, and bring the romantic story to a thrilling and entertaining climax. On the same program, John Wayne, and his horse Duke, are featured in "The Man From Monterey," a story of the great outdoors.
