SEVERAL weeka ago when several of tha Big Shoti In public

In short we maintained, President Roosevelt as usual, was

In the process of spending, they made
business better.
When business Is good, people have
the money with which to pay taxes.
When It la bsd, they HAVEN'T.
UST how does this borrowing-
J spendlng-taxlng process o r k.
Well, the government BORROWS tha
money from those who HAVE it.
Then It SPENDS It among those who
haven't.
When It note com due, It taxea
those who HAVE, In order to get the
money with which to psy what It has
borrowed.
IP YOU have followed this process
correctly, you have noted that this
b o r r 0 w 1 n g-spendlng-taxlng cycle
hasn't changed at all th mount of
money we have In tha country. We
have Just aa much aa before. Not a
single dollsr has been destroyed.
All that haa happened Is that the
dollars have been placed In DIFFER
ENT HANDS, and in tha process ot
placing them In different hands, bust,

So maybe, after all, we shall not
ba ruined by thla borrowlng-spend-Ing-taxlng

THERE'S a lot about money that
we don't know.
But there la something we're be

moves.
Th dollar that passes rapidly from

ter for everybody. The dollar that

politely. In a eafe deposit vault

So, apparently, the thing to do la

If 'this borrowlng-spendlng-tsxlng

will WORK In restoring prosperity.

Catastrophic?
"Dabbling In polltlca by the saloon
element waa one of th procuring
causes of prohibition."
It Is the statement of Evan Reamea
of Medford. And It la tremendously
true. It la good guidance for th
liquor control commission In fixing
it policy and making it appoint
ments.
Th atate' control of liquor taat
must be kept far removed from pol
itic. Men named for local poemon
should not receive thalr appoint
ment through political influenc.
No nartv oraanizatlon should con
cern Itself about tha oholc of per
sonnel. No prospective candidate for
office should be allowed by th com
mission to exert influence in tha
appointments.
The distributing state stores ehould
not be loafing places. They should
be place where purchases can be
made promptly and where there will
be no discussions concerning pol
ltlca or candldatca.
It waa In the back room of th

filing on state lsnds. It waa part of
the Intrigue that ended In the no
torloua Oregon land fraud trials. It
waa part of the scheme by which
thousand of acre of valuable pub
11c lands were stolen.
Let the new distribution stores be
safeguarded as to men and measures.
Let all plana and practlsea be upon
a strictly buslnesa basis.
