The shoot, which waa sponsored by the Medford Qun club, the Medford Rifle club and the Roxy Anne Orange In an effort to raise a charity fund, developed into more or less of a bat tle between the "city slickers," and the Orange boys, with the latter get ting all the .worst of it, according to O. O. Hoover, one of the promotera. According to Hoover, one of the Orange mainstays, Oene Cameron, shot all day at clay pigeons and along toward nightfall succeeded In breaking one. Another Granger, also according to Hoover, acquired a duck at a total cost of (20. BIRTHS Word has been received In Med ford by Mrs. Verl O. Walker of the death Sunday afternoon of John B. Blchan at the Veterans' hospital at Sawtelle, Calif., as the result of heart trouble. He had been ill about a year. For several years Mr. Blchan was dairy Inspector for Jackson county and made his headquarters nt the county agent's office. He was born June IS, I860 In the Arcadian Isles, Scotland, and served during the war with the Scotch Highlanders. In 1924 he was mar ried to Edna Stelner, daughter of Mrs. D. J. Stelner of this city. They made their home In Santa Ana, Calif., where Mr. Blchan was employed as dairy Inspector for Orange county. Surviving are his wife, Edna Steln er Blchan, Santa Ana, Calif., his father In Scotland, several brothers and sisters, also a host of friends In tha Rogue River valley. Funeral services will be conducted Wednea day In Santa Ana at 10 a. m. Skinner Rites 10:30 Tuesday Funeral services for H. C. Skinner will be held at the graveside In the Medford I. O. O. ASHLANDERS HELD ON SUSPICION OF LIVESTOCK THEFT Gene Hastings, 33 Ashland barber, and William Chlpman, 63 California street, Ashland, were arraigned. In Justice court on charges of larceny this afternoon, and their preliminary bearing waa scheduled for two o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Tha two men were srreated by state police for allegedly killing a goat Sunday at the ranch near By bee bridge, operated by O. C. and L. G. Hamilton, brothers. State police aala that Chlpman did not deny that they killed the goat. Olflcera said a man saw a car drive up to the ranch, two men get out. run the goat In a corner, and cut Its throat. He approached the car, look ed at the men, got the license num ber of the car, then notified the state police. Tha two men, upon seeing the stranger, threw the goat Into some nearby brush and. drove away. according to police wbo found the goat there. Hastings was arrested this forenoon at Ashland, and bond for the two waa set at 150 each, Chlpman waa being held In Jail while Hastings, who owns property here, waa allowed to try and get ball for himself and Chlpman. Captain Leo M. Bown of the state police, said this morning that It waa hoped the arrests would eliminate much of the petty larceny of live stock, and fowls, from valley farms, which occurs almost every week-end. He pointed out that there are several charges under which such cases could be booked. E E Definite Indications that add. ttonal labor and funds may be com lng to Medford through the Civil Works Administration channel were noted today in the letter received by Mayor E. M. Wilson from Burton E. Palmer, assistant to the admin istrator, stating that applications would be accepted from city plan ning boards. This privilege la being extended Medford and four other Oregon cities, Portland, Corvallls, Eugene and Sal em. The applications will apply to such projects' as traffic surveys, plans for zoning, studies and maps of high- way or other public works, housing surveys and similar studies needed for which labor Is not now avail able. The purpose is apparently to put more people to work In these lines.
