Murphy, one of Ashland's beat known native sons, died at his home there this morning after a brief Illness. His parents. John and Mary, crossed the plains in 1853, and settled on the Murphy donation claim south of Asa land, where John J. Murphy wss born September 29. 1860. where he lived until 1914. when he and his family moved to Ashland. He has resided there since that time. Mr. Murphy had always been an active farmer and stockralser In the valley. Mrs. Murphy preceded her h us ban 4 in death 10 years ago this month. He la survived by three sons. Carl, Murray and Ray, all of Ashland; one brother, Ed Murphy: also two grand children, John and Mary Louise. He was a member of the I. O. O. P. lodge, and passed through the chairs of that order, also being a memoer of grand lodge and the Ashland lks Funeral services are to be conducted Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, at the Elks' temple, with the lodge conduct ing.
