(AP) A statement that leas than half the an nual Increase of the elk herds in eastern Oregon was killed during the open season this fait, was accepted by the state game commission at Its meeting here Monday, and the game supervisor was Instructed to report before March 1 with recommenda tions as to dates and conduct of the 1934 open season on the big animals. Chester E. McCarty, assistant attor ney general assigned to the game commission, reported that every case prosecuted In Union county In which hunter was charged with wanton killing of elk during the recent open season, resulted In conviction. Two cases are pending. The commission was to continue Its regular session today, with a discus sion of the proposal of Dr. O. Max Gehlhar, director of the state fair, suggested that by the expendi ture of not more than 1500, the game commission could arrange a permanent location for display at the fair.
