MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE, MEDFORD, OREGON, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7, 1933. PAGE FOUR FLYING COUPLE I FUTURE FLYING (Continued from paga one) Tfte moat easterly olty of Brazil, Natal usually la the first place in country to be reached by trana-At- lantio fliers; but the arrival of the Lindbergh a and the singular re- servo of the colonel topped all other like events In arousing interest here, The entire population was out along the harbor when the Ameri cans' big hydroplnne roared in from the Atlantic yeaterdny afternoon. Cheers were deafening. Police bat tled the crowds to maintain order. With Mrs. Lindbergh operating their planes' wireless, the famous pair had traveled over the ocean 2876 miles In 10 hours and 10 min utes ehe to become the first woman evor to fly In a plane across the South Atlantic. It was, all Natal thought, an event to celebrate. Tct what were t,he colonel's only words to the welcom ing delegation which fought Its way to his anchored monoplane In the harbor "It was a fine trip,' he said, and more of the same. Commonplace remarks, technical comment. Having from time to time greeted other United States avllators, Natal had come to consider them all very agreeable, very communicative. But this one this "Lono Eagle" said nothing. Businesslike, as always, Col. Lind bergh wasted no time In setting about making his ship ready for further flights. Long before noon he was out on the monop'ane examin ing It with expert care. DEATHS FROM FOOTBALL FEWER IN PAST SEASON NEW YORK, Deo. T (AP) A rec ord of progress was marked up today in the efforts to check the deaths caused by football as a survey made by the Associated Prees revealed only 20 deaths directly attributable to the game during the 1033 season. Last year a similar survey showed 38 football deaths and In 1931 there were 50. Ten more deaths may be partly charged against the game but are considered doubtful. In these cases doctora said football Injuries may have been contributing factors. High schools again showed Vie greatest number of fatalities, 10, and "sand lot" games were next with 13 deaths. Not one college varsity play er died as the result of football In juries that could be traced to su pervised games or practice. The 30 deaths, including the ten "doubtful" fatalities, are classified as follows:: College, 6; high school, 10; aandlot, 13; semi-pro and ath letic clubs, 3. LOS ANGELES, Dec. 7. (AP) With the cripple list Increased by the ad dition of Homer Griffith, senior quar terback, Southern California's foot ball team went Into another huddle with Itself today, determined that 1U final game with Washington here Sat urday shall not end In defeat. Griffith probably will not be able to start the game because of an ankle sprained in the Georgia game. He la not likely to play more than a few minutes at beat. This means that Irvine Warburton, 147 pounds of All-American football fire, probably will be called upon to engineer the Trojan attack. SKER AGE LINCOLN, Neb., Dec. 7. (AP) Be fore forgetting the 1933 football sea son the Nebraska Cornhuskera, cham pions of the Big Six, selected an "all- opponent" honor roll from the ranks of teams they opposed. Three were given unanimous choices. They are 8k I ad any and Wal ton of Pittsburg and Franklin of Ore gon State. George Bauer, Nebraska's All-Amerlcan fullback, rated Frank lin as the best ball carrier he played ngalnst during his three years as a Husker ace, REILLY TWICE PORTLAND, Ore., Dec. 7. (AP) Jack Forsgren, 330, of Vancouver, B. C, won the main event on last night's wrestling program here from Pat Rellly, 308, of Boston, two out of three falls. The Canadian used a' half nelson and a body slam to win the first fall In 10 minutes. Rellly tied the count with a body press in 14 minutes. Forsgren took the final and deciding fall In only one minute with a body slam. Howard Cantonwtne, 330, Portland, and Ted Cox, 330, Lodl, Cal., drew after five rounds of wrestling In the seml-wlndup. Each took a fall. The three -round match between Bob Myers, 163, Tillamook, and Leo Jensen, 100, Vancouver, B. C, also ended In a draw. Bunny Martin, 100, Tulsa, defeated Sailor Franz, 165, San Diego, taking one fall in the preliminary. STANFORD TOOK EASY TEAM SAYS WARNER SOUTH BEND, Ind., Dec. 7. (p) In the opinion of Glenn "Pop" War ner, Stanford picked an "easy oppon ent" for the Rose Bowl game when Columbia was chosen. "There are at least eight better clubs In the east," said Warner.
