Drenching rains fell along the Washington, Oregon and British Co lumbia coasts, more than an Inch In a 12-hour period at Vancouver, B. C., and nearly an Inch at Seattle. A wind of gale velocity lashed the district. Lowland areas on Grays har bor were flooded by a high tide In the inland Empire area, extend ing as far east as western Montana, heavy snow fell. Two of the three passes in the Cascade mountains were blocked to highway traflo by the drifts. A landslide at New Era, north of Aurora, blocked the main lines of the Southern Pacific at 8:30 a. m. Slides on the Portland -Marsh field line held up traffic last night and had not been cleared early today. Damage to telephone lines waa scattered over the state. About 500 ttlephonea were put out of service In Portland. The Corvall Is -Newport lead waa snapped, as was the Newport Tillamook line. Trees falling across wires caused most of the trouble The Roeeburg-Marshfleld and Eu gene -Reedsport lines were out In the coast moutalns, but service was to be restored during the morning. Til lamook was cut off from elegraph communication, and several tele graph wires were out on the Marsh field circuit.
