Tigers Invade Ashland Saturday for Battle With Traditional Foe UNSULLIED TITLE Llthlans Expected to Strive Mightily In Climaxing Clash of Season Game Called for 2 o'clock Br HAROLD OROVE. Championship bound, the Medford high school Tigers will meet the strong Ashland high school Grizzlies tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock on the Ashland Junior high school Held Meetford and Ashland fans are as sured a Tery exciting time. Prom the first toot of the whistle until the last thump of the pigskin, there will be plenty doing. From this clash will come a basis of comparison In figur ing the championship hopes of Med ford. At present Medford Is the only team In the state undefeated ana untied and the gnme tomorrow will give Medford an undisputed rating In comparison to other prep teams of the state. Ashland Could Tie Rating. The best that Ashland can get Is a tie for Southern Oregon honors. According to reports, Don Fnber, Ashland coach, has no decided defi nitely what type of armament he will use. He may use the aerial route and ha may use the Infantry forces, but In all probability he will have some home cooked tricks worked up to pull on the Bengals. Ashland has always been known as a deceptive grtd ma- chine, no one person, except the coach, knowing what la going to be pulled until the klckoff. Has Speedy Bnckfleld. Ashland la made up of a light, speedy backfleld which last year proved Tery troublesome at times, and a Una that Is heavy In spots but averages around 170 pounds. The backfleld li led by a little speedster by the name of Durham. Durham has been touted as a triple threat artist. He la particularly noted for his quarterback sneaks through the line. The line la led by a 347-pound "Prlmo earners," who has been Ash land's main cog on defense, ss well as ollense. It Is through his side of the line that this quarterback sneak la pulled. Crucial Oame. Medford has been bowling over all opposition and Is pointing for the state championship for the second consecutive year. The game tomor row means everything to the Medford team, If they win It will give them the undisputed right to the state and aouthern Oregon championship. It means that If Medford wins and any other team In the state disputes the right of Medford to the throne, they will have an opportunity to settle the dispute on the gridiron Thanksgiving day. Salem and Bend are the only teams In the state that can possibly ohsl lenge Medford on the basis of equal ity. In most Instances, there Is little toi ahoose between the big gsme rivals, but on the basis of results to date, the prospects line up something llko this: Army-Navy: This colorful clash, the first regularly scheduled game between the service academies since 1027, finds the Army favored. The Tars are much stronger than a year ago, but the Impression Is general that the advantage of manpower atlll Ilea with the Cadets. With Bun Borrles, Red Baumberger and Bill Clark, Navy has plenty of backfleld strength to match Army's Jack Buck ler, Paul Johnson and Joe fltancook, but the West Point line appears stronger. Army will be seeking to protect an undefeated and untied record. Navy has lost to Pitt, Co lumbia and Princeton while beating Penn and Notre Dame In major games. Tale-Harvard: seldom nave onesc ancient rivals come down to their annual battle more closely matched, on paper at least. But here again there Is a well-defined leaning toward Yale, perhaps largely because of the Ells' fine showing against George and the fact that the Blue had had the benefit of two weeks of compara tive rest. Harvard won ita first ma jor victory last week, but there wss little to cheer about In the Crim son's ia- triumph over Brown. Yale's record In major games shows victories over Brown and Dartmouth, defeats by Army and Georgia. Harvard has been beaten by Holy Cross and Army and tied by Dartmouth. Notre Dams - southsrn California: The renewal of this claasio finds both teams already beaten and the edge In Soutnern California's favor. Tied by Oregon State and beaten by Stan ford, the Trojana came back with a bang last week to wallop Oregon. aa-0. Lehigh - Lafayette: A renewal of one of the oldest of all football rival ries, with Lafsyette favored. U. C. L. A. -St. Mary's: A billot for St. Mary's, but by no lopsided count. (AP) Stanley Pinto, heavyweight wrestler from Ravena, Neb., was In a hospltsl today after a bout with 'Ed (Strang ler) Lewis and physicians fear his neck may be broken. Lewi threw Pinto last night in the first of a scheduled two-out-of. three fall match and the Nebraskan was unable to continue. In his dressing room, Pinto col lapsed and was taken to a hospital. He revived and went to his hotel but later was found unconscious in hi room, being again rushed to the hospital. Physicians said they planned an X-ray examination of his cervical vertebrae today.
