X. cooper was Instructed to prepare sd Introduce the bill. Funds would mploy hand labor on county roads. Cooper said It was purely an emer gency relief measure to eliminate seed for any new relief tax, and at the same time to protect the gasoline tax from diversion to other than road purposes'. Duration of the diversion would be for such period as need exists for this type of relief work. A 60-80 population and area di vision plan among counties would be followed. County relief committees would select work projects recom mended by county courta. Existing county road building agencies would supervise and administer the work. The city of Ashland won three project for action thla wee. They are: City park work, employing H m?n: improvement of the Hargadlne cemetery, employmg three men; and Improvement of the Reter dam, em ploying five men. Ths Medford irrigation district will employ 81 men Immediately In en larging the canals by hand labor. The Talent Irrigation district will employ tha sam numbs! lor a similar project, and ths Rogue River Valley Irrigation district 30 men for deep ening and widening canala. The Eagle Point district was allotted 80 men for Immediate work. These projects do not come under the heading of relief but of employ ment, It was stressed today by file Jackson county committee. All men will be employed for a period of line weeks. If their labor proves satisfac tory to the foremen In charge. Chosen from Districts. Men for the projects will be se lected through the civil administra tion committee, with headquarters In the city hall here, and will be chosen from the respective districts In which the work Is to be carried on. Th committer todav announced that it will receive and welcome ap plication for further projects from nv munlclnal corooratlon and from school districts. Projects which will give employment to women are par ticularly desired jvnerever economic ally aound. Hn allocation of money Is being mentioned by the committee, but the allocation of men, as the human ele ment Involved, Is to be considered at all tlmea, rather than monetary gain. Rose was arrested at 1:45 a. m. to day by state police after hla car had crashed Into that belonging to dt B. R. Durno.
