With Thanksgiving tlll more than a week away, the events, which are planned, am scheduled for that time. The Elks will entertain, with a holiday ball on Thanksgiving eve and numerous dinner parties are already arranged to precede the affair. Open house will be observed In several homes and many family parties, In keeping with fine old tradition, will bring guests to this city and take a number of folk away, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred B. V. Carpenter, who are returning from a trip thru toe east, will stop In Pasadena to spend the holiday with Mrs. Carpen ter's parents, Dr. and Mrs. Blue. A large event today will be the party at Rogue Elk Inn honoring Hugh B. Rankin, retiring supervisor of the Rogue River national forest. Employees of the forest are entertain ing for their chief end the guest list will include forest officials, employees their families and a few friends of the honor guest. Arrangements are being made to entertain 137 people. Interest In football will be revived agsln next week-end for many local folk, when Stanford plays the Unl Terslty of California at Palo Alto. Among people going from this city wlU be: Mr, and Mrs. O. M. Roberts, Mr. and Mrs. R. a. Bardwell and Mr. and Mrs. T. Slater Johnston. Dr. and Mrs. D. H. Perry of Foots Creek, whose twin daughters, Eliza beth and Frances, are student at Stanford this year, also plan to see the game, expecting dual thrills since Stanford Is also their alma mater. Shores waa appointed to call on the teacher of the Oak Grove school, and ascertain If there are any children In need of clothing. Mlnear on Dec. 0, Alpha Delta Class Enjoys Social Session The Alpha Delta class of the Chris tian church Bible school held Its reg ular monthly business meeting and social In the recreational hall of the church Thursday afternoon with about thirty members In attendance. Needle work and conversation were the principal diversions of the after noon. The committee, with Mrs, Everett Eads aa chairman, served ro tfreahmenta at the close of the social hour. Quilt Fair, Event for Coming Friday Women of the Christian church are planning a quilt fair for Friday, No vember 34, from 11 a. m. to 8 p. m., to be given In the recreation hall of the church. There will also bo a display of curios and antiques. A cafeteria luncheon will be conducted, and a small admission fee charged. There were 13 tables of bridge In play at the party given by the Cen tral Point Parent -Teacher association at the Grange ball Thursday evening. To Hold Phoenix Meeting The Women's Relief corps held special meeting Wednesday at the Armory for the purpose of Inspec tion. Mrs. Annie E. Stelnbaugh of Grants Pass was the Inspection offi cer and she) was rjcompanled by Louise Reed of that place. A covered dish luncheon was serv ed at noon, after which the busi ness meeting was held. Daughters of Nile Prepare Boxes for Thanksgiving Day Thanksgiving Is not far distant and local members of the Daughters of the Nile are already making plans to assure the little crippled children in the Shrine hospital at Portland some thing for which to be thankful, when the world .outside gathers at festive boards. Each year the Daughters of the Nile prepare boxes for the chil dren. Committees have been named In Ashland. Medford and Grants Pass to carry on this season's work and Monday, November 27, has been cho sen as the time limit for filling of boxes. The local committee Is composed of Mrs. Chas. L. Woods, Mrs. J. A. Perry, Mrs. C. E. Gates and Mrs. W. E. Hlttson. Donations for the boxes will be received at Mrs. Woods' home, 103 Genessee street, this week. Persons unable to deliver contributions are asked to telephone 1640 and a car will call for them.
