A fine array of prize await the winners, and due to expert handicapping It Is expected . the winnings will be liberally dis tributed. Turkeys, merchandise and a plaque, the latter to be engraved with the tourney winner's name, will be given at tha end of the day's play. A telegram received last evening by Harry MoMahon, member of the tournament committee, from A. P. Caveman versus Tiger will be the features for Saturday when the Mcd ford Tigers Journey to a rants Pass to get a hunk of Caveman or to let Mr, Caveman get a hunk of Tiger. The game starts at 2 p. m. Not since 1031 have tha Cavemen won from Med ford. The score In that encounter was 7 to 0 for Grants Pass. In 1039 Med ford defeated Grants Pass 7 to 6, placing Med ford and Orants Pass on an even basts In com paring scores for the past two years. Grants Pass has been dogged by tough luck and Injuries all season but hope to avenge the defeat suffered last year at the hands of the Tigers. Another Important factor in prov ing tha worth of the Cavemen is that en Armlstloe day In Roseburg, Grants Pass missed defeating the Rooeburgh Indians by one point. Medford de feated tha Indians by only one point. Tha aoora of the Roseburg-Grants Pass game waa 7 to 6 for Roseburg. and the score for the Med ford -Roseburg tilt was U to 13 for Medford. The only Injury reported on the Tiger squad Is Lloyd Hammack, who auffered a sprained ankle in last Sat urday's encounter with Eureka, but It probably don't keep him from the game If he Is needed. Don Steward understudy to Hammack, will prob ably get the starting call. OREGON LEADS COAST CONFERENCE FOOTBALL r4' t Vol 7 w f it fl (Associated Pr... Ph.. " ""'" ' P m we oacxfieid. FOR POINT KICK IS NEW IN EAST NEW YORK, Not. 17. fp. Lon Stlner, coach of the Oregon State football that so far has been beaten only by Oregon, the class of the west, nas nut one regret regarding this trip east to tackle Ford ham. It would be swell." he said to day, "If the boys could Just forgot football and go out and see the town, i They've earned It. But unfortunately 1 they've got to play a game Saturday, and from what I hear of Fordham, they'd better be good." Stlner Is bringing something east that this section has never seen be fore. He has a special play for block ing points after touchdowns and field goals. Hfs two giant tackles, Harry Field, 223 pounds, and Adolphe Schwammel, 214 pounds, each grab a leg on the center, Devine, and when the ball Is snapped they heave him straight up Into the air. When he gets up there, a dozen feet or so off the ground, he proceeds to block kicks. So far Oregon State has been scor ed on only three times. Devine knocked down Oregon's first attempt to kick the extra point, and the sec ond got by him. An end sneaked in and spoiled the act by blocking an attempted field goal by Washington State, but Devine was up there, and ready. Coach Howard Hobson's SONS 1 football squad wound up a week of ! hard practice yesterday In prepara tion for their battle at Ashland with the Invading Eastern Oregon Moun taineers of La Grande Normal school. The game, feature of the annual Southern Oregon Normal school homecoming program which opens this evening with a noise parade, will be for the trl-normal state cham pionship. Passing Attack Plnnned If the field la dry, the SONS are expected to depend mostly on their passing attack and some new plays devised particularly by the canny mentor, who knows all the surprise stuff in the book, and some that hasn't been written yet. Lateral plays and spinners will be sand wiched in liberally with straight foot ball, Is the expectation. The Injury bugaboo made Its en try Into the SONS' camp last week and may keep two -star linesmen out of the game Saturday. Ward Howell, giant end, received a bad arm In Jury in the Marin game and had It irritated In the Willamette tilt last week. Howell only played five min utes against Willamette and Is un- likely to start against the EONS. Ross Carter, star tackle, who suf fered a leg Injury In the Marin game, may also be confined to the sidelines Saturday. Absence of the two stars will weaken the Hobson outfit materially. Their places will probably be tak en by North am, ex-Eugene high school star, and Carl Ayres, former Commerce high star of Portland. La Grande Score High Season's statistics show that . La Grande Normal has scored 131 points against 20 for their opponents, in six games. They have won four games, were tied once and defeated once. Southern Oregon Normal has five victories on the credit side, and has suffered two defeats (by Oregon State and Willamette), scoring 96 points against 41 for opponents. - The game is scheduled to start at 2:15 p. m. Saturday on the Ashland high school field. U.S.C.
